Author Topic: How to get preferred seats on AA (with Status) when booking BA award ticket (Read 5580 times)

I didnt see this anywhere and thought it might help some people.

If you have AA status and you book an award ticket on BA, you wont have access to the preferred seats on AA.com.

The simple way to fix that is to use www.Finnair.com. Click on "my booking" and put in your BA record locator with your last name. You will then see an option to "update your details".

Simply replace your BA # with your AA #. Go back to AA.com and you will have access to the entire seatmap.

what I usually do is call BA and ask them for the AA record locator then call AA and put my number in.

but this sure beats that

Or go to checkmytrip.com to get the AA locator

If all you want is the record locator, you can go to AA.com and put in your name, date of travel, departure city and it will pull up your reservation.

Several posters on FT said they had difficulty when calling AA to replace their FF#.

The BA FFN is locked in place, even on finnair.com

BA has the most inconsistent IT system around. They must be running several different systems simultaneously behind BA.com

Its kind of finicky recently. Works on some reservations and not others...A post on FT indicated it works on RJ.com as well

I figured out why sometimes it works and others its grayed out on Finnair.

When booking the ticket, I used to remove my BA# which is automatically filled in.
If you leave it in there, you are able to make the switcheroo on Finnair.
Remove it when making the booking and you will have to call AA to add the # in (or use RJ.com and have all your passport info available)

Another way is via http://classic.checkmytrip.com. I was able to pull up an AA record locator within minutes of booking a BA reward flight. Useful when you're booking for someone else and don't have their AA login (even if you do, its hit and miss).

you can do that on AA.com directly by putting in the flight number, date of travel and last name- will give you the record locator.

We were discussing how to get your AA elite number into the reservation so you could choose a preferred seat etc...

I don't see how you can do that if you don't have the AA login. checkmytrip allows you to get the record locator and access the reservation as 'guest' so you can input elite number from AA or another airline.
