Where is the best place for authentic charcuterie? I found Amsellem but want to know if it's good and what else is out there.

https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/07/24/anti-semitic-violence-is-out-of-control-in-canada/

Two stories that I heard today that reflects how law enforcement react on anti-semitism:

1) a Jewish guy went with his family to a place that offers horseback riding as he arrives and someone over there realizes it's a Jew he comes speeding up with a tractor literally pushing their car out of the parking lot the guy called police but after a while that they didn't show up and it was Friday afternoon he just left 2 minutes later the police officer calls him and tells him you have to understand that your community is not welcome here and please let it know to other people in the community not to come so he says but this guy almost damaged my car with his tractor so the police said listen you also trespassed on private property so don't talk about that.

2) a day camp went with their campers to a public park when someone showed up and told them that you're not allowed to come to the park with a group of more than 20 people, the camp director said okay I didn't know about that but I don't have buses now to take the kids home it will take a while, he responds listen here I'm calling the police we'll see who will arrive first your buses or the police if your buses don't arrive you will get fined, buses didn't arrive and the police did and he tells them I never even knew such a law exist this is the first time I'm hearing about it I will have to issue you the ticket by mail as I don't know exactly what to write...

Was planning on staying in Montreal a few days this summer on the way up to the Laurentians.

Is this not a great idea at the moment (not necessarily so much for myself, my wife would likely be spooked if downtown is full of "Palestine" support flags)?

actually lol

Thanks, though wasn't asking about my wife as much as the state of downtown Montreal. For reference, we live near NYC so used to generic stuff; the article posted made it seem like Montreal is in a different league.

thanks, that what I figured - that article seemed a bit over the top but I wanted to know if anyone here had seen anything themselves. We don't currently have anyone that lives there.

Until there is a incident, do you think the NYPD will be more helpful than the SPVM (had to google that)...? Who would take it more seriously?

Unfortunately SPVM isn't doing a great job. It's a tough race as to who's worse.

I completely agree. However, we should also consider how often they have had to utilize their anti-hate skills. They may be becoming less effective over time, especially when they are truly needed; this points to a systemic issue.

While it is disheartening to observe how incidents are being managed, I still believe that, based on the frequency of such incidents, Montreal is safer than New York City.

Law enforcement typically arrives after an incident has occurred. While their presence may provide a sense of security, they do not seem to be effective at deterrence, particularly in light of bail reform and other factors.

I share your concern about the future of this country.
