Is it a wild idea for a total stranger in Israel to rent a car and tour Israel relying just on waze, or there's no problem with it and as long I'll follow waze I should be good to go?

It depends on your sense of direction and basic knowledge and common sense. It can be fine.

What's the other option? Get a driver or stay home?

Was just there for Pesach and had a rental car the whole time. Even if you turn the setting of "avoid areas not under Israeili authority" on, you'll still end up going through a decent amount of Arab villages because they are officially under Israeili authority, so Waze won't route you around them. Because of that, I ended up driving though a couple. For some, I felt completely safe, for others, I broke a bit of a sweat. You definitely want to avoid those villages at night. What I did was any time that I started to see only black water tanks on top of the buildings, I made a U-turn and made sure to get out of there as quickly as possible.

If you use Waze make sure your setting limits you to Israeli controlled roads.

Also depends on where you plan on going. More likely to end up going through those villages if you're planning on going up north (Tiveria, Naharia) or down south (Dead Sea, Eilat). Sticking around Jlem and the surrounding areas is simpler in terms of driving yourself with Waze.

Ya so I wouldn't really suggest just going solo with Waze. Unless you have someone in Israel that knows the roads really well who you can confide in when Waze gives you a route to make sure you're not going anywhere dangerous.

Ok, I appreciate your advice, I'll just get a driver or use other transportation methods.

I was in that exact situation about a year ago when I first visited Israel and between Waze and Gmaps I managed just fine, except for Chevron where I took a tour so I wouldn't have to drive down there on my own.

If you have a planned itinerary and spend some time on Google maps prior to your trip to get a sense of what roads you'd be traveling on, I believe it shouldn't be a problem.

It would route you through druze villages, big difference. There arent really any dangerous arab areas up north. (maybe Nazreth)

No but its very dirty, seems like the painter mistook the floor for the walls
