It's not a situation.

I live in Israel and got a red light ticket in the past. They only have a picture of the license plate. The camera is positioned to take a picture of the back of the car to show that you crossed  the intersection while the light was red. They have no way of knowing who is in the car so they assume by default it is the owner. If someone else "claims" the red light ticket, they transfer the ticket to his name. The issue with these tickets is not the fine but rather the points that go on your license.

In Israel, points on your license don't impact you financially in any way (there has been talk for years to give discounts to people who have a "clean" record but nothing has happened yet). The problem with the points is that after a certain amount (I think 12) they make you take a preventative driving course and if you get even more points they will suspend your license and possibly make you take the road test again. If you are American with an American license than you will not get points on your license since that system only applies in Israel.

i apologize in advance for going OT just not sure where to ask
i was approached by an israeli bocher today asking me if id be willing to go to court over a red light camera ticket he got.
not asking if this is ethical. anything i stand to lose? her claims all i would get is some points on my american DL which should not impact my insurance back home or show up at all.

any DP?
when i was in EY a bunch of bochurim were doing this, never had any problems, i never did it myself.
