Anyone here want to host me and a friend of mine from yeshivat shaalvim for a shabbos sometime this year? The food there is terrible...actually quite inedible to be honest and any home cooked meals would be much appreciated. I know there is a website called anywhereinisrael.com which finds a host for you but it would be kinda cool to spend shabbos with a fellow DDfr. Thanks in advance! All help/meals are much appreciated.
From what I hear you guys had a fancy dinner the other night...

I apologize in advance if this was already discussed.

Have not been to Israel in over a decade.

Can I drive to Meoras Hamachpela and Kever Rochel, or do I need to go with a tour bus or another way?

I'm based in yerushalyim and renting a car.

What's the safest and best way to visit those two locations?

You should not drive at all, if you have to ask that question. You're a danger to yourself and your family.

Don't think Hatch has been mentioned here.
Homemade sausages with home brewed beer. In the shuk.
Excellent stuff. Pretty sure @moish is on the Chofshi Chodshi.

In terms of driving yourself, kever rochel you can definitely do yourself. Use Waze with the avoid A and B option turned on. The whole compound is walled in, including plenty of parking.

However, the same cannot be said about meoras hamachpela. So if you want to do it cleanly in one trip, you might be better off with a tour or private bus doing both.

That's what I figured.
It's been a quite a while since I've been there and wanted to know if things changed over the past 15 years.

I acknowledge I'm being a jerk, but what tipped you off that things might have changed in the past 15 years? Has it been the second intafada? The thousands of terror attacks, including hundreds on the road you would be driving on?

What tipped me off was there was no Waze then and Kever Rochel was open and needed bullet proof buses then.

Wanted to know if things changed and clearly they did. Just not as much as I hoped.

Are you looking to rent a big sukkah? In which area?

Possibly.
Maybe for a night.
Shmuel Hanavi General Area, can include Arzei, Sandria, Beis Yisrael etc...

Kever Rochel is 5 minutes out of Yerushalyim, everyone drives there.
Also Kever Rochel to the 60 ( Road to Chevron) is not dangerous, if you know where your going (You could get yourself trouble if you go through Bethlehem ( Beis Lechem), as least in the beginning when your passing by Beitar and Efrat, I would think its more dangerous further down the road more towards Kiryat Arba etc...

THANKS everyone.

So I'm assuming, and correct me if I'm wrong, that if I set up Waze correctly and follow Waze, I should be ok for everything on my itenerery EXCEPT Meoras Hamachpela.

What is the best way to go for a family of 4 (two adults, two kids)?

Depending where else you're going besides for those two places. There are other roads in Israel that are dangerous to drive on...
