Myth in the sense that if an american actually socialized with israelis they would get the same price. Yes its a myth. However gemerally americans pay more and willingly get ripped off much more than israelis because they dont know how to...in this country. Heck , the fact that eshkolet is still around and pyup looks like its pumping millions on paran says it all.

@Dan if you're gonna find out about mehuderet you should definitely find out about Gabrielle's, it's mehuderet as well and supposed to be phenomenal. I've never been there but have heard about it from many friends.

Another great restaurant is grill bar, it's machpud, been there many times always walked out happy.

+1. Find a tour guide to do the whole Ir Dovid. Chizkiyahu's Tunnel and the sifting especially should be engaging for kids.

pizza was very good for israel but not pizza dsolo level.  if they have the special (ask), the tiramisu was an excellent an unexpected quality dessert.

Second of all, I never said they're the same as regular Rabbanut - they just aren't that much better. While it's technically perhaps somewhat of an improvement over plain Rabbanut, it's not enough of an improvement to the point that most of us take it seriously. The vast majority of "our kind" - i.e. frum Americans living in Israel - do not hold them to be an acceptable standard.

If I wanted to be a schmuck, I'd say "well, then they're not what I'd call 'frum'"... but let's not go down that road.

For clarification, I was referring to the average frum guy learning in the Mir. That type of crowd.

The whole thing is basically 3 simple ingredients (IIRC), plus natural flavorings,  and it was made from start to finish right in front of me.  In a situation that is so mind-numbingly straightforward and simple, I'd even be willing to trust plain Rabbanut.

And either way, I never really ended up eating it anyway. It was more for the experience than for the finished product.

Ahhh so those you can at least check the hechsher on each one. The marshmallows are still an issue unless they are totally separate equipment.
