rabanut mehadrin is not a good hashgacha. thats why rimon in town has additional hashgachos, such as chasam sofer p.t.

its not so complicated. just like in america there are hasgachos that arent good, such as if they rely on kulos that the mainstream dont hold of or if nobodys home. there are "hashgachos" here that is nothing more than a piece of paper and it says mehadrin etc. they are completely illegal and the government is constantly taking them to court. however the signs still hang in some restaurants. such as in the restaurant Gabriel. the sign hanging in there is from a completely bogus organization. there is no hashgacha on the restaurant. the problem is that americans come, and either they dont know hebrew or they know enough to read the word "mehadrin" and think its okay. another example is the popular "mitz pri" in geula. he has a "teudah" hanging in his store, but if you read it, it says that "we give a hasghacha on a certain brand of frozen fruit" he just made a copy and hung it in his store. he has no hashgacha at all. he might buy his fruit from the side of the road with no trumos and maasros taken off, arla etc, and nobody would ever know. he happens to be a rasha as i know people that went to his store and he tells them that this paper is a hashgacha, and when the person read it, he pointed out that wasnt the case, and the owner started hitting him. for more info see jerusalem kosher news by yechiel spira

It's much more complicated than in the US.
I can go to LA, NYC, Chicago, Cleveland, etc. and eat in a restaurant knowing that it's kosher.
In Israel I don't have a clue which are acceptable and it seems that everyone tells you another opinion about each one.

Fair enough, but 99% of LA restaurants (including all the good ones) are under Kehilla/RCC.

True, never thought of it. Maybe because in Israel, real treif is very hard to find?

I spoke to hechsher experts, and they told me that our local machsike hadass hechsher, as far as seriousness, beats all the big and famous ones by miles, such as badats, rubin, landau, and so on.

Dan, to make it easier, there are 4 hashgachos that almost everyone eats-

-Badatz Eida Hacharedis
-Shayris Yisroel
-Landau
-Rubin

Then there are some chareidi hashgachos that alot do eat and some don't-
-Agudas Yisroel
-Belz
-Chasam Sofer- Petech Tikva
-Chasam Sofer- Bnei Brak

Then you have Rabanut Mehadrin which is very complicated. Basically you have some that never eat it, some that always eat it, and others who will only eat after asking a rav who looked into the restaurant personally.

Most nice resturants are either rabanut mehadrin or agudas yisroel- very few nice badatz resturants.

There is also Machpud which even most non-sephardim eat as it has the reputation of a top hasgocho. For example, entracote is machpud and most people eat there.

ISRAEL IS MORE COMPLICATED 4 SURE

You have to be pretty brisker not to eat landau and shearis. Of course there are people who only eat badats EC, but I was speaking about almost everyone.

that you dont eat shearis I understand, but Landau is probably the best unbiased hechsher with rubin.
