I was today in Netanya eating at Cafe Del Mar, I notice on the bill that they charged me 16 shekel more, so after asking then I found out that they charged me the tip included (and we only ate there for 146, so they basically charged the tip מלבר).
So all of you out there, beware! Don't pay those israelis more than they deserve,  especially if they don't give you exactly what it said on the menu (they usually don't and it caused then to lose their tip -and save me some money- more than once)

Is that restaurant better than Mul Hayam? Any good recommendations for hotels etc in Netanya?

About the same just that you sit outside.

Keyara too. Very disgusting. It doesn't indicate on the receipt that that total includes tip. it just says all the items you ordered and says "Total". If you don't add everything up you would never know

It very clearly says "Sheirut %12". In fact, if you give them an eLuna.com coupon, then it changes to "Sheirut %13.33" (I think) so that your coupon doesn't affect their precious tip. Now THAT'S chutzpah. :o

Why is that chutzpa? If you have a coupon for a free meal, the waiters should not get tipped the same? Unsmooth, maybe. Chutzpa?

recommended tip is 12%, not 13.33%
they can ask nicely and explain.

Not to mention the fact that in Israel, the standard is %10. They are putting you on the spot, since the vast majority of people would never want to sound so cheap to ask them to chop off %2, even if the service was lacking.

Similar to how Papagaio adds 2 NIS/person to the bill automatically as "optziyot avtacha" (security option), a "tip" for the security guard. Never mind the fact that I never asked for a security guard (they are required to have one, it's their problem), and never mind the fact that half the time he's not even there - first they put it on the bill, then you have to feel awkward if you don't want to pay it.

who said theyre required to have one?

I was friendly with a security guard at one of the restaurants here, and he suddenly stopped showing up - there was no security guard at all. Some time later, I met him working somewhere else, and asked him why he abandoned ship. He said there's some kind of governmental body that decides which establishments need security guards and which don't, and the restaurant he used to work at was apparently deemed safe enough to be taken off the list.

Likewise, I have a friend who manages a small shopping center in Jerusalem, which is on the border between "shopping center" and "shopping mall". They paid a lawyer thousands of shekels to ensure they be categorized as a shopping center. Why? Because the law requires malls to hire security guards, and they don't want to have to pay extra salaries.

My point? Virtually nobody hires security guards just for the fun of it. It's an extra salary (or two) to pay, and (in some cases) extra equipment to buy. If an establishment has security guards, you can be %99.9 sure that it's because someone is forcing them to.

Anyone know of a good agent/website for apartments in Israel? I need one for 10 days in November. If there's a thread devoted to this please point me in the right direction.
