And people ask why I haven't been back to Israel in 2.5 years :P
Sorry, not good enough excuse.  The pros waaaay outweigh the cons.  Almost sound like those people that when you try to explain them about credit cards/miles/points, the whole game etc., they get so confused and intimidated, they don't even wanna hear.

True I can't argue, the Hashgocho situation is ridiculous etc., but when all is said and done, no matter your standard, I'd imagine there are still so many places to eat, it shouldn't even compare to yyz, gru, eze, etc ....

I don't mean to sound callous but Israel can be a PITT.
I was so excited when I finally made it there in 2007 and got to spend a month traveling everywhere in Israel, but after being back a few times everything from pervasive imaginary rental car scratches, to the severe lack of point accepting hotels, to the lack of quality mehadrin restaurants (that those cities with a tiny fraction of the frum Jews in J'lem have world-class operation and J'lem doesn't is just sad), to the pervasive Israeli attitude you get everywhere, to the suicidal drivers, to the lack of parking, it all starts to wear down on my nerves and doesn't create a pleasant travel experience.

I'll be back but I'm just not in any particular rush anymore. Sad but true.

That's my point. I learned there almost 5 years and i really hated all the things you said. The only reason I'm going there now to visit is because I have many relatives there who never met my wife, and because of the price glitch. It's really sad that I'm not looking forward so much to any hotel experience or restaurant or to even rent a normal car...

I actually find that it's more pleasant to live here than to visit here.
When visiting, there are vacation style expectations, and Israel doesn't match up.
But when living here, those expectations don't exist, and the other pros (whether religious or not) definitely shine.

I would love living in Israel for a year, but I bet I would love the creature comforts of America even more when I returned.

:)
If it weren't gilded, ppl wouldn't remain there. It's part of God making it a challenge, and hence, engaging our free will.

(On a related note, it's interesting to note that life began becoming good to the Jews in America, just as it was becoming much better for Jews in Israel. In the 30's life in both places was somewhat miserable for new refugees. Another example of us being given free will.)

Is it possible to rent a car in Israel without paying for insurance out of pocket?

see dan, what you complain about is what i dont mind about, when i was in america i counldnt wait to get back home with no car and walking every where, its all diff way of life, some ppl like it others cant stand it, i understand completely but when in america i lived in my car, litt (thru the storm lol) and with the cold i still like the walking in comparison, everything is right here. when you come its all about touring, and this summer i did that and yes it was a pain, but if your living here its a  whole diff game
