Click on "United air travel award rules:"
"You may redeem miles for travel in United Global FirstSM, United First®, United Business® or United BusinessFirst® , even if the space is not available. In these cases, United Economy in the same award type must be confirmed, and the front cabin will be waitlisted. For example, a Saver United First award must be confirmed in Saver United Economy to be eligible for waitlisting. If the courtesy waitlist does not clear, it will expire 24 hours before itinerary departure, and you will automatically be added to the airport upgrade standby list upon check-in. In these cases, you will be confirmed on a space-available basis by a United airport representative at the gate once the flight has closed for check-in. For United BusinessFirst and United Business travel awards, the difference in miles will be refunded when the United BusinessFirst or United Business class segment of the trip could not be confirmed. Waitlist requests may only be made over the phone with your local United Reservations office"

I booked a plan B LAX-EWR (business saver booking but seated in coach and on the wait list).  Its now with 24 hours and the agent put me on the standby upgrade list but not as PR-1, so i am the last on the list.  I spoke with three different ticket agents who refuse to put me as PR-1 for various reasons -- i dont have elite status and other people on the wait list do, the other people on the wait list paid full fare for their tickets and it would not be fair to put me ahead of them, flights to EWR are too full to allow people with my status to be placed as PR-1.  Etc.  I asked them to look at GG-1 standby and they said it didnt matter and they cannot put me as PR-1.

Anything i can do?

Try agents elsewhere in the airport, like in the lounge.

In this case, your waitlist will be prioritized by your status. However, you will have priority over customers that are seeking upgrades by using certificates.  ^JH

Yes. You will be under a GS/1K etc doing Plan B.

If there is GS/1K doing a Plan B for the same flight as you, you will both have PR-1, but he will have the tiebreaker because of his status.

If the flight I want Plan B on isn't showing any availability in J at all (not even regular revenue), is that a bad sign?

Or cancel, but obviously your chances of clearing are lower.

Ask Ushdadude. He's trying, too.

Couple of weeks. I'm contemplating switching to a connecting flight. A 10 hour red eye in y sites not sound like fun.
