Is someone else who booked on Saver canceling the only way to clear beforehand? Or does United periodically open up more Saver space (I know they open a couple of days before. I'm asking for clearing further out)?

I am trying to book EWR to LAX in the summer, Plan B. Anybody know if United has a "limit" to number of saver award seats allocated to each flight? I'm traveling with kids, so looking for 7 seats. Planes are almost all 757's with either 16 or 28 business class seats. Should I not even waste my time?

Does this work with an miles upgrade award on a paid ticket?
Eg. if my co. pays for my ticket, can I use miles to upgrade even though there are no award seats available and be put on the waitlist?

Is there any formula as to when United releases additional Saver Business space, or just totally random (at least from our perspective)? Booked 2 seats on Plan B. One cleared like a week after booking but the other still hasn't (flight is in 3 months so I have time, but just curious).

I completely forgot about mine and than checked it about 4 weeks before flight and it had cleared for business- no human intervention at least not on my part, phew!

You didn't get an email? That's what happened when one of my seats cleared.

It said waitlist for upgrade on boarding pass. I guess i'll never know if I did get it in the end. We did get priority baggage though
