"You may redeem miles for travel in United Global FirstSM, United First®, United Business® or United BusinessFirst® , even if the space is not available. In these cases, United Economy in the same award type must be confirmed, and the front cabin will be waitlisted. For example, a Saver United First award must be confirmed in Saver United Economy to be eligible for waitlisting. If the courtesy waitlist does not clear, it will expire 24 hours before itinerary departure, and you will automatically be added to the airport upgrade standby list upon check-in. In these cases, you will be confirmed on a space-available basis by a United airport representative at the gate once the flight has closed for check-in. For United BusinessFirst and United Business travel awards, the difference in miles will be refunded when the United BusinessFirst or United Business class segment of the trip could not be confirmed. Waitlist requests may only be made over the phone with your local United Reservations office"

HUCA

HUCA never fails!!

Called up the premier desk and got a great agent named Rose. I explained that I wanted to know if it was possible to add the LIH-HNL segment back onto the itinerary. She put me on hold for a while (checking in every few minutes to update me) and eventually it was all in order!

I've been Huca-ing all day and I can't get them to deduct the full amount. If I haven't successfully gotten it in the past I would have long given up. Is it possible that I'm having a harder time because I originally booked it online in X as its less then 3 weeks away?

I think that might be why. When I booked I had the agent do the booking and the waitlist for me. I don't think they can do it on an already-booked itinerary (or if they can, they might charge change fees).

Also, for the initial booking (first two calls out of three), I used the "have United call me" option that Dan has posted about. They do seem to be most knowledgeable about the waitlist options, even if they say they can't do it they are very sure about it  :P. Third call (adding the LIH segment back on) was with the Premier Gold desk.

I always do united call me.
Now they deducted the right amount but receipt has the lower amount.
Should I make a big deal?

Bump.
Anyone know if this an issue.
They said it was done correctly but it's just a technical issue with the receipt.

They did deduct the business amount. My issue is that its not reflecting correctly on the receipt.

I'm Gold actually (until the end of Jan, then I'm nothing)... I used to be 1K, and I used to be an Explorer cardholder, but currently have nothing but Gold. Does Gold get access to IN class? I'm guessing that regardless, my IN waitlist is there to stay, which will help me get an upgrade where I class might not clear. Just like I was able to confirm into E+ and that's there to stay.

I set up a Plan B award a while ago for CLT-IAH-HNL.  However, unlike the guide here, they didn't deduct the business class rate (40k), just the economy price (22.5k).  Yet, I've seen "I class requested" ever since.  The agent told me that if I class opened up, I'd get notified to call in and have the additional miles deducted.  The flight is next weekend, and there are no business class seats unsold on IAH-HNL, so odds look slim.  However, a few months ago the CLT-IAH leg got upgraded to domestic F.  I wasn't asked to pay anything extra.  Assuming everything stays as is, will I be in CLT-IAH domestic F without paying any extra?  Also, the booking is showing no charge for 1st or 2nd checked bag, I assume because we're in domestic F for the first leg.  Will that be the case?  If so, I'm quite a fan of Plan B even when it doesn't come through.

On a separate note, I probably won't put forth the effort for PR-1 status since we depart at ~6am, but would I even be able to get it applied since we didn't pay the full 40k business class price?
Catching up a bit too late.. As Dan said this is not plan B, plan B is when your ticket is reissued as a business class ticket. And if that would be the case you probably would be able to get refunded for the small leg. Though im not 100% sure. If it would've been CLT-EWR-TLV and only the first leg would be upgraded you would get a refund.

You probably didn't refresh the reciept.

I refreshed a few times. It wasn't an issue in the end.
I'm assuming it had to do with the fact that I changed it from x to plan b.
