"You may redeem miles for travel in United Global FirstSM, United First®, United Business® or United BusinessFirst® , even if the space is not available. In these cases, United Economy in the same award type must be confirmed, and the front cabin will be waitlisted. For example, a Saver United First award must be confirmed in Saver United Economy to be eligible for waitlisting. If the courtesy waitlist does not clear, it will expire 24 hours before itinerary departure, and you will automatically be added to the airport upgrade standby list upon check-in. In these cases, you will be confirmed on a space-available basis by a United airport representative at the gate once the flight has closed for check-in. If I book LAX-ZRH-EWR-TLV for 80k in business but  LAX-EWR is in coach
can I get PR-1 status at airport ?

Also can I book it through SQ ?

Did you mean  LAX-EWR-ZRH- TLV

I did a plan b reward for myself wife and kid. Its lax-ewr and then ewr-tlv. We were already confirmed for first from lax-ewr. If i want to go to the airport 24 hours before the flight to get us all PR1 status, can i go myself for all three tickets or do i have to shlep all of them along? Also can i do the request for pr1 status for my second flight (ewr-tlv) in lax since it will be within 24 hours of the ewr-tlv flight? Thanx in advance!!
And lastly, are the lines to be referred to the clerk at the airport about PR-1 status still

"If the agents in the airport are all clueless you should direct them to look up “gg onestandby” in their system (they’ll know exactly what this is) and look around lines 81 which spell out the details of the procedure for this award."

or has it been changed to lines 32-57?

Does anyone know the answer to any of these questions?

That's the problem with plan b if you are the type to only fly J/F.

Can you tell us how the process of requesting PR1 in EWR went?

Is plan b in affect within the 24 hours of the flight?
What if it opens I seats in that period of time?

if I had plan b and didn't get upgraded for the first class, how long does it take for the miles to be deposited back into my account?

also does it make a difference that the extra leg is a yr later? or will I get my miles returned back to me earlier ?

If I book EWR-TLV-EWR-LAX and they all clear except EWR-LAX, can I ditch that last leg and say that I didn't want to fly in economy to LA and get a refund on the extra miles? Effectively I would be paying 85k to fly roundtrip in business if the longhauls clear and the EWR-LAX doesn't clear.

You won't get any miles back.

So i booked a plan B ewr-tlv, i believe it was setup correctly. Tried to get PR-1 status at the airport, premier checkin counter were nice but a waste of time. At the lounge, also very nice and called the mileage plus center for help. The rep wasn't aware, I quoted the line 81 and she looked at that but wasn't convinced. She looked into it with her supervisor. After a long back and forth, she said they could only put me into pr-2. I went to the other lounge and off the bat the agent said only pr-2.

After all that time, I gave up. It did not clear, I was 4th on the list.

Obviously people get it done, so it must be doable, just posting my experience.

From what I understand EWR-TLV is hard during peak travel season. Other routes and times are usually a lot easier.

And Premier Check-In in EWR is even worse.
