Creditcard post bankruptcy
« on: August 12, 2012, 01:03:44 AM »
Unfortunately, I was forced to file for bankruptcy about a year ago. What can I do to start rebuilding my credit? I want to somehow open a credit card, even if it means  I will only get  a $200 credit limit.

Anyone been there that can help me?

You'll probably do better at creditboards.com

Get a history now by whatever means. You want that ground spike put down today for your history 10 years from now. Try to get an someone's credit (longer they have had the card, the better) as a co-applicant now. With USAA you will immediately grandfather the entire history of the person you become co-applicant with. I don't know if this was a mistake in their computer system 3 years ago and still do that. If you don't start laying history down today, you'll be credit poor for the next 10 years.

You mean as an AU? Would he get approved to be a co-applicant shortly after bankruptcy?

I mean he needs to be added to an existing account as a co-app. They most likely will not pull his credit this way. I had outstanding student loan charge-offs when I did this. My credit score shot up after that, then really shot off after they fell off my credit. I inherited 15 years worth of the primary's credit history.

Oh, yes, you are right. I tend to look at them the same. Yes - "joint"
