Teaser Card Rates and Transfers
« on: August 13, 2012, 11:22:07 AM »
I need to tap into some of my cards' credit lines.  I have some 4-5 offers of 0% for 14-18 months or so.  The credit limits are from $5000 t0 $30000+.  I need about $30000.  I know that maxing out isn't a good idea becuase of credit utilization issues, but if I use one card, or two, I will save on their fees.  Thoughts?  Thanks.

Whatever you do, don't do that.

Why not??

Most issuers will cancel the duplicate apps and you'll only get one card, your app that gets processed might also get flagged (read: extra scrutiny) as a security/fraud risk.

Now please tell me why you would apply for three of the same card from the same issuer at the same time?

Are you sure? The OP did not state if there was a fee.

IDK what the OP was referring to, but the Chase Slate is currently offering $0-fee BT with 0% for 15 months.

That is a good one. The OP seems to be talking about offers on current cards.

I'm yet to see an offer on a current card with 0% and $0 fees. Please CMIIW.

I've got several discover offers with 0% for 15 months...  Citi AA visa and amex sent me 6 checks and 0% for a year.. Got the same offer from sapphire for balance transfer.
Not exactly free capital in these cases, there is $4 charge or 3% on the transfer which ever is greater but still not bad at all

2 things:

#1-  a) Are you sure that a Cash Advance is also 0% APR??
                      b) Are you sure checks aren't consider a Cash Advance, with interest if there is??

#2- I was referring to Purchases that are 0%, therefore makes it FREE capital, but I was NOT referring to balance transfers!

Ok you are corrected. I have not received any but others I trust have reported to get them (Chase & Discover IIRC).

All of the offers have some BT fee.  And do utlization ratios matter that much?

Another question.  Its unlikely that I will be able to pay it all off in 18 months.  Aside from paying on time, any tips to future solicitations for similar offers?

A 0% BT offer, or purchase checks? (the two are not officially the same, though you can obviously get creative ;) with the purchase checks...)

A lot of times the offers are the same but I am not sure on this one. Like you said if you get creative, BT’s are the same as checks.

Can you write out the check to yourself??

Thanks in advance!

Nope, you're going to have to try harder than that...
