Chase Hyatt Card Question/Park Hyatt Paris
« on: August 13, 2012, 04:36:34 PM »
1) I'm traveling to Paris in a 3 weeks with my wife and having trouble finding any good hotel options.  Is it worth it to open the Chase Hyatt card, for both me and my wife, and receive 4 free night certificates (2 per card) to use at the Park Hyatt in Paris?  Will we be able to receive the card and redeem the certificates in time?

2) Once I'm doing a hard pull from Chase, are there any other cards I should apply for?

Thanks!

Dan, you are totally the man.  Just want you to know that I booked my parents on ElAl this month due to you and they haven't been there for almost 10 years, plus my not (yet) frum grandfather is now a big fan of your site.

Just started the CC fun a few months ago - only did a 3BM with Amex, have SPG, Delta, and PRG (made sure to use your links, obviously).  Nothing yet from Chase.

SO - shouldn't be a prob to apply for both me and my wife and use the certs for 4 nights even though we're leaving in 3 weeks?

You get the nights in your account within 3-7 days from spending $1 on the card.

There are lots of good Chase cards out there.  For Paris the Sapphire Preferred will be great and Freedom is simply awesome if you can also get a chase checking account..

1) How long will it take to be approved & receive the card? Should I be worried about availability at the PH?

2) Will be traveling thru France, Switz, and Venice - Sapphire Preferred is the way to go for no forex fees?

3) Reading up the forums all day for tips - thanks again for all the help!

4) Any tips for a hotel in Interlaken?

Also, looks like only suites are available for some of the days I'd be looking to book - any reason to be concerned?

Perhaps. If there are no regular rooms available they won't let you use your free nights. Unless you get Diamond Status before applying for the Hyatt cards and then you will get free suite nights.

Is there any easy way to get diamond status? No real status here in other programs...

Easiest way is to get a status match--

And it might always help to email or call the property manager about your new wife or have your wife arrive at the hotel with a white gown.

Is it worth it to apply for the cards for the both of us without any assurance that we'll get the rooms?
Seems like only suites are available for part of the trip.

Maybe something will open up. Or you can save the nights for a different trip. Or you could sell the nights.

Any chance if I tell Hyatt reservations its my honeymoon (which it is) that they'd let it through and let me use them?

It can't hurt to ask but it could be the rooms are actually all full.
Also I am going to guess a lot of people heading to Paris are there for their honeymoon. Just saying.

If you call the hotel directly they can open up rooms. They have for me, but YMMV.

You were diamond, no?

The odds that someone with no status will get the PHP to open up a standard room for redemption would seem an uphill battle.

Dan, do you agree?

What exactly do you mean by "open up rooms"? Do they purposely leave some rooms vacant or (probably) not all room are available for free night awards?

New question:  is there any way to reserve rooms with a cc and then redeem with free night certs once they post to your account?

Thanks.

Officially, no.
But I had experience doing that by having a nice talk with the property manager. YMMV

So you called directly to the PHP as opposed to calling Hyatt reservations?
