When he came back from his extended vacation, impeachment documents were waiting for him on his desk.According to Lakewood’s law, three of the five members of the committee must vote to convict in order to remove a sitting mayor. Three members voted to convict, with Eleff’s brother, a sitting committee member, surprising siding with those voting to remove.Many pointed to Eleff’s many accomplishments as reason to look away from the allegations and to let him continue at the township’s helm. As mayor, he had the entire township repaved after designating all roads as an airport and securing a grant from the National Transportation Safety Board for runway repairs. Eleff also had all township homes repainted after convincing JetBlue executives to create the world’s first all-blue city. He also effectively warded off a potential riot by assigning all the rioters Spirit Airlines status and thus causing them to not show up.“He’s just another victim of the cancel culture,” a Lakewood resident who wished to be identified as PG asserted.Asked what he plans to do going forward, Eleff indicated that he may try his luck singing at weddings.
