Whats a Desktop Deal:

There are many factors you need to take into account in order to make something a deal. Manufacturer, Product line, Specs and warranty are usually what to look at when figuring that out. You need to consider prices as well, sometimes you get a price so hot that it doesn't matter what company it is.

Generally speaking here are the guidelines for Intel processors:

i3 8th Gen processor - Under $300 is usually a hot deal, Under $350 is decent
i5 8th Gen Processor - Under $400 is a Usually a Hot Deal
i7 8th Gen Processor - Under $600 is a Usually Hot Deal

to be continued....

Sorry in advance if this was talked about earlier. I understand buying a refurbished computer is hit or miss and there are bad apples.  But I looked and it more or less looks like either people give 5 stars and got a good one or 1 star and got a bad apple. Buying from Amazon prime and the seller has great ratings isn't it worth the risk if I can always return it? The price vs a new computer is double.  Below is the specific computer I'm looking at. TIA.

The pros and cons of this computer are not even new vs really refurbished. It's modern vs old. Really old. This is a decade old processor. Comparing an i7-2600 to an i7-11700 is nearly sacrilegious. They're worlds apart. Every component of this computer (from the RAM to the processor to the SSD to the Wi-Fi) will be slower than an up to date option.

Thanks, any recommendations for a computer under $400 for basic work (email, excel, word) . Should I wait for sales over this weekend? TIA

Dell deals section had 10th or 11th gen i3 with 8gb ram and ssd for under 400.
Dont have links handy.
Sounds fine for your needs. I7 isnt neccessary and the Amazon link doesnt even say which generation it is.

Cross-posting as it went unanswered in the other thread.

I bought an HP gaming desktop on sale. My plan was to swap out the GPU and sell it, leaving me with a great desktop for a great price.

I need the PC for office work, no gaming.

It needs to be able to handle Adobe PS, AI, etc. A lot of browser tabs, and MS office, running simultaneously.
Can anyone tell me if this will fit my needs, or I should rather buy something that was built for my needs?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I personally don’t use Windows Home.

For an office computer a TPM and Windows 10 Pro 64 bit are a requirement.

I am not up to speed on the various CPU options out there nowadays (AMD vs Intel), and probably should re-acquaint myself with that field. I used to focus mostly on RAM and SSD for responsiveness in the office, but maybe I should pay more attention to CPU.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Thanks for the reply.

Are AMD's as good as Intel, today's days?
The processor I have listed competes pretty nicely against the i7, according to  https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-10700-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-5700G/4077vsm155267
Wondering why it's almost mostly used by gamers.

You need windows 10 Pro mostly for the networking options, correct?

Is there anything else significant that Pro offers?

I'm assuming you meant remote desktop protocol, since remote desktop server needs a server license.

Not to mention that's already networking, which includes a lot of other things too.

Looks like I'm going to open the box.

If anyone needs a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 Graphics card, I have 1 available at $750 OBO.
