Whats a Desktop Deal:

There are many factors you need to take into account in order to make something a deal. Manufacturer, Product line, Specs and warranty are usually what to look at when figuring that out. You need to consider prices as well, sometimes you get a price so hot that it doesn't matter what company it is.

Generally speaking here are the guidelines for Intel processors:

i3 8th Gen processor - Under $300 is usually a hot deal, Under $350 is decent
i5 8th Gen Processor - Under $400 is a Usually a Hot Deal
i7 8th Gen Processor - Under $600 is a Usually Hot Deal

to be continued....

Got something already?

TBH, $500 is not even a joke for such specs, even $800 is barely even possible for such.

For $800: How is this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1LBTJDK?th=1 or this one (worse brand, a little worse CPU, but 1TB stoarge) https://www.amazon.com/C27-1800-UR12-i5-12450H-Graphics-Wireless-Keyboard/dp/B0CRC2HYMY?th=1

I am ending up going to be getting a monitor and a laptop. The cost went all-in-one doesn't justify.

It's a normal desktop at a standard price. If you wait you can get the same for $100-$150 lower. But not a ripoff.

https://www.costco.com/acer-aspire-desktop-%e2%80%93-14th-gen-intel-core-i5-14400-%e2%80%93-windows-11.product.4000247987.html
May as well get this one from Costco, basically equivalent, with larger storage and better warranty.

The new dell models finally dropped a bit in price.
$499 for the i3/8gb. After new email signup, amex offers, etc, under $400. Need to add another ram stick.

The new ultra 5 model starts at $150 more with the same 8gb ram

Fine computer, not worth the price (75 over the costco and office depot, more expensive than at Dell with offers)

Now we're talking. The ultra 5 model starts at $569, about $80 cheaper than yesterday. After amex offers and new email, and after adding a separate ram stick, good deal.

how does the 16gb compare to this? https://a.co/d/gxcJaWI

Ignore the $200 Amex credit. Is it worth $80 more?

I see it's like $4 cheaper since you previously posted it, now at $669

If you mean paying $750 for direct from Dell for the Core Ultra 5-225/16gb vs amazon for the previous model with i5-14400/16gb, I'd say the cpu is probably technically worth more, but I'd save the money and just buy the plenty powerful cheaper one.

But that's not the question at all.
1) There are two cheaper options, the Lenovo from office depot and the acer from Costco. Both for $599.
2) Instead of spending $750 on the 16gb dell, spend $569 for the 8gb and add your own ram for under $30 (plus some knowhow)
3) I'm not talking about the $200 amex credit, which not many people have. I'm talking about a) signing up for emails for 10% off code b) Amex offer for 13% off dell, not limited to business plat. Chances are very high you or someone in your close circle has it. C) buying discounted gift cards or someone else's $200 credit, or using portals.

So that $750 computer can be under $500, the $499 base model can be $325 plus $30 ram stick, etc.....
Not for everyone, but also not that complicated to get the dell for 35% cheaper than list, plus tax.

I'm not an expert but I like these small form factor PCs
https://ebay.us/m/lgMYOc
They're pretty easy to replace parts. Usually from business or public office clearance auctions so odds are you'll get one in decent shape. And they are well equipped for everyday tasks plus more.
I use something like this at work and have no performance issues at all.

For reference I usually just check userbenchmark for the cpu to make sure it's ok. It seems to be in a good spot. And it comes with 16gb RAM which is good for most things and a nvme ssd so shouldn't be too slow

Overenthusiastic review from a guy I know nothing about, but he shows the ram upgrade, and how easy it is.

$640: HP Envy with i5-14400 and RTX 4060, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Note: 400W PSU means there is literally no headroom for upgrades without changing the PSU also. But a good price for midrange multimedia system.

HP Pro Mini 400 G9
i5 13600T, 16GB RAM; 256GB SSD
$499

The one from HP.com above ships in a month. The dells have some hoops to jump through.
So this is a good ready to use small desktop.

Confirmed that I have $50 off on my relatively mundane Chase card. @jj1000
Excellent price on a multimedia computer ($590 with a 4060!), relatively cheap price on an i5-level system ($430).
