Whats a Desktop Deal:

There are many factors you need to take into account in order to make something a deal. Manufacturer, Product line, Specs and warranty are usually what to look at when figuring that out. You need to consider prices as well, sometimes you get a price so hot that it doesn't matter what company it is.

Generally speaking here are the guidelines for Intel processors:

i3 8th Gen processor - Under $300 is usually a hot deal, Under $350 is decent
i5 8th Gen Processor - Under $400 is a Usually a Hot Deal
i7 8th Gen Processor - Under $600 is a Usually Hot Deal

to be continued....

Unless you are doing real heavy work i7 desktop is overkill, most i3 desktop processors are better than most i7 laptop processors
We currently have a whole bunch of i3 desktops (not sure which models) and after a few months of use the performance leaves much to be desired.

Is the deal on DDMS, dell with TV, worth it for the computer itself?

Looking for a desktop for the house. Nothing fancy. Just decent sized hard drive and RAM.

If anyone can point me to a good deal since I'm not so fluent in these things, it will be greatly appreciated.

Anything good with the Bestbuy sale?

Anyone here do their own builds?

I have a laptop that doesn't charge sitting on my desk, which I effectively use as a desktop. I'm considering replacing it with a cheap DIY desktop and adding a big screen. This way I can also hook up the screen to my work laptop when I need to work at home.

Anyway, I've been messing around a bit, playing with PC Part Picker and other sites. I can't decide between an i3 (probably the 4170) with an H97 mobo, or an FM2+ (probably the A8-7600) with an A78 or A88 mobo. I'm leaning toward the AMD setup because it'll get me faster RAM and actually be cheap enough to easily make up the faster RAM cost.

Also, I'm looking for a cheap case/PSU combo (can be sold separately, but looking to keep the total cost down) with an 8" or less footprint, and preferably not too noisy.

Thoughts, suggestions?
