Whats a Desktop Deal:

There are many factors you need to take into account in order to make something a deal. Manufacturer, Product line, Specs and warranty are usually what to look at when figuring that out. You need to consider prices as well, sometimes you get a price so hot that it doesn't matter what company it is.

Generally speaking here are the guidelines for Intel processors:

i3 8th Gen processor - Under $300 is usually a hot deal, Under $350 is decent
i5 8th Gen Processor - Under $400 is a Usually a Hot Deal
i7 8th Gen Processor - Under $600 is a Usually Hot Deal

to be continued....

Doesn't look particular special
While Acer isn't the best manufacturer, where else can you get a current-gen i5, 12 GB of RAM, a nice-sized-512 GB SSD for this price?

XPS 8930 Desktop i5-9400 16GB 1TB $587.99
9th Gen Intel Core i5 9400 (6-Core, 9MB Cache, up to 4.1GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology)
Windows 10 Home 64bit
Intel HD Graphics
16GB DDR4 at 2666MHz; up to 64GB
1TB 7200RPM 3.5" SATA HDD
   + $29.40 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD
Take this deal for example, costs an extra bit but a far better deal IMHO

While that deal might be good/better but 1- the difference in the processors between the generations is not a small one (IIRC the 9400 doesn't have hyper threading.) 2- The bigger SSD is a benefit 3- It's cheaper.

Its bigger than people realize. Especially as you said the i5-9400 doesn't have hyper threading.
SSD are so easy to replace and are pretty cheap if you do it yourself that I don't care if a computer comes with a small SSD.

The "issue" is... that if you're compensated with a 1 TB HDD you think twice before going to buy one... but in fact having two main storage drives is a fragmented experience.

True..... That's why I don't like offering that.
Though I do have 2 HDD's in my personal computer besides the SSD

Again I didn't say it's a bad deal, just sometimes what goes up on DDMS isn't the best option 💁‍♂️

Now $501.11
Yes, but then you get (on the same listing) the one with the newer gen CPU for only $28 more... I believe it should be worth the upgrade:
Is this ddms real worth it?

Question for you fine folks. Im lookingat buying an XPS in the current labor day deals, and am reading online about how the new XPS chassis (8940) is a downgrade on the old ones and will be too small to provide adequate airflow and the 360W power supply will likely be too low (based on prior pwoer issues with an earlier model but actually higher than 360W) - unless you opt for the add-on 500W, which is not offered on every configuraiton. Any comments on the validity of these concerns?
