Desktop Deals Master Thread

Would somebody be kind enough to weigh in on the following?  I need to buy another computer for a vacation house and want something that is at least as powerful as the machine that I am presently using (no gaming), occasional photo editing, and mainly surfing.

Below are the specs on my current machine.  Here is the key:  I don't need it for another 4-6 months.  Should I wait or buy it now?  If so, does the 8940 in the prior post make sense as the one to buy?  Not only do I see the 10% coupon for $719 but I also have an Amex Offer which knocks another $120 off.  So, price before taxes is $600.

Thoughts?

I don't see why you should wait, there are good deals now.

The XPS 8940 is definitely a good buy. It's quite similar to what you have now but way better because of the 5 generations newer processor and SSD storage drive.

Maybe go for 8gb ram and 16 memory?  I don’t do any gaming.  I just need one that is not slow or weak and have sufficient  storage space . I would also like one that has Bluetooth built in . Should I go for HP or Dell? I already have HP  all in one printer . My budget is around $500 to $800.  I looked at HP websites and I see ones that says HP slim line desktops . Are they good?  Pls advice me on what I need in tech specs and what your recommendation is! Thanks

Vast majority of desktops nowadays come with bluetooth integrated. Read the product specs first to make sure but should have it.

At this level, when you're looking at a consumer desktop there is no practical difference to you whether it's an HP or Dell. They both make similar quality consumer desktop models, it'll be about what deal you can find in the end of the day. The slim desktops will not impact your performance either, they are the same thing as the wider towers just in a smaller form factor. Do not go for the micro desktops however. Focus on the specs for the price point and make a decision from there.

I would add, that for the non tech savvy, customer service is a big deal. And at Dell it's video worthy.

On that note, it maybe be worth it to pay a little more a d buy it from Costco. All computers there come with a 2 year warranty with great concierge service of u need help. And then use their credit card and u get an additional 2 years of coverage.

the local costcos here hardly have any deskotps. They do have one  and it was ALL IN ONE desktop with 8gb ram. All in one means it doesnt have the tower and everything is on the monitor right? also 8gb ram is weak. isn't it?

Most printers communicate with the TWAIN driver, and as long that is the case all it needs is a windows OS
the only printer that I'm aware of that doesn't use the TWAIN driver is fujitsu scansnap so you would need to use their software to use the printer, still doesn't matter which brand PC you use

Any thoughts on this deal? What is the conventional wisdom of going with AMD over Intel? How is the AMD Ryzen 5 processor? Can I find a better deal on an all-in-one with similar specs (16gb; 512gb SSD)?

did I get a killer desktop pc with killer specs for killer price?

update today:

I purchased this PRESIDENT DAY DELL XPS SPECIAL EDITION desktop but configured version with same graphics and everything, plus I added Blueray optical drive and 2TB SSD. That;s huge extra SSD storage and Blue ray drive instead of just CD/DWD drive.
I paid $1306 total before tax for shipment in April 8. Hope I receive it before that so I get the Amex $120 credit.

What you guys think?

hello, i need your opinion on what I just got from Dell. I believe I got a killer desktop for killer price. Before that I know some may think I am trolling cos I posted this on another post but I just got Dell to upgrade the model with far better specs and faster shipping in March vs the earlier shipping date in April. I just changed my order to the NEW XPS DESKTOP 8950 with configurations for $1300 before tax. The website price with those specs is $2300 before tax. I have a 10 years old PC and I am due for a New desktop. Honestly I don't know much about computers besides email and websites but it helps to have a strong reliable powerful future proof computer. Do you think I got the following PC for excellent price? Thanks
