Whats a Desktop Deal:

There are many factors you need to take into account in order to make something a deal. Manufacturer, Product line, Specs and warranty are usually what to look at when figuring that out. You need to consider prices as well, sometimes you get a price so hot that it doesn't matter what company it is.

Generally speaking here are the guidelines for Intel processors:

i3 8th Gen processor - Under $300 is usually a hot deal, Under $350 is decent
i5 8th Gen Processor - Under $400 is a Usually a Hot Deal
i7 8th Gen Processor - Under $600 is a Usually Hot Deal

to be continued....

Try replacing the hard drive with a ssd. For your requirements you may still be OK with this system once you get it up and running.
You think it mount just be a bad hdd? I also find that sometimes when I wake up pc from sleep or when the screen times outthe monitor won't turn on. I have to turn it on and off multiple times before it turns on. I have a gateway fhd2400

It benchmarks like a 3rd gen i3 processor basically so if you aren't ready to pay for a new system just yet, a ssd may save you for a little longer.

What kind of interface would I need, given the age of my computer? SATA III?  The installed drive is SATA 3gb/s so that should work right?  Does the SSD use the same power and data cables as the sata II hDD?

is this good http://www.costco.com/Samsung-EVO-250GB-SSD-Drive-with-Desktop-Bundle.product.100102757.html
I figure Costco is safe since i can always return it the easiest if i still have desktop issues.

Looking for a quality system mostly for citrix and occasional movies with two big screens (23 inch or maybe more), with room to put in an extra blueray drive. Any good deals around $600 or less? got a core duo quad in 2011 that has pretty much run its course (has a bunch of issues i dont wanna bother with), would like at least a quad core with 6mb cache.

what do u think re Acer reliability against say an HP Pavilion? feel like Acer's cut more corners and have more bloatware.

http://www.costco.com/Acer-ATC-Desktop-%7c-Intel-Core-i7-%7c-Windows-7-Home-Premium.product.100126405.html
Is it way more than what I need for watching tv/movies, word processing, spreadsheets and citrix, and some photo editing?

Lenovo Desktop $150
« Reply #871 on: November 06, 2014, 10:00:02 AM »
$150 after coupon code USPQ1930116.

Intel Celeron
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
Windows 8.1

This is an excellent price for an entry level/internet browsing/word processing desktop. It's also extremely compact with a very small footprint.

It's perfect for word processing/internet browsing. You shouldn't have a problem with logmein.

But don't expect it to run at blazing speeds like an i7....
