Adding a gold AU to Platinum card?

I called amex to add an AU to a platinum card.  The rep said it costs $175 for 3 additional users.  She then gave me an additional option - to add 5 gold AU's for $45.

Anybody ever heard of this before? Is it really possible to have a gold AU on a plat account??

yes, but AU wouldn't have all the benefits, plat cardmembers have. and of course not PRG benefits.
its just a term they use for AU on platinum which doesn't have platinum nor gold features

Just last night I closed my wife's Amex plat card. I was an AU under it.
The first rep I spoke to told me that I wasn't going to get the $175 annual fee back for the AU. I HUCA and the rep told me the same, and I escalated and told the supervisor that I had been told in the past that I was gonna get it (I did). After putting me on hold, (not sure if she went to listen to recordings or what), she came back and said that if I was told so they will refund it.

Does anyone know what the actual policy is on this?

I don't want to call Amex and ask them to add an AU and at the same time ask if I cancel within 60 days will I get the $175 back...

you can add yourself as a gold but you won't get the special category bonuses

Thanks, I was about to post this question, But I searched first and found your post. I assume you speak from experience, Would you know if the same rule applies to a Gold AU on a Plat Corporate card?

Had exactly same question, as I wanna add myself to wife's plat before I cancel within 60 days.
