Delta Premium Economy Seats

Delta charges $39 for "premium economy seats." If those are the only seats left and I don't choose seats, will Delta give them to me without the upcharge?

Where else will you sit?

(unless someone at the airport upgrades, and then a seat opens up for you)

If that's where they put you they can't make you pay for it. But they might "upgrade" someone with status to that seat before you.
