Difference between GD and JS.
Like I said I was having a hard time following. It makes sense why causing a loss to others (not saying this is what happened) would be a problem. So it does not matter if the person is Jewish or not the discussion would be the same (loss to someone)?
I'm not following your question (again). Not every potential/perceived loss to someone is halachically a problem, halacha defines which are a problem (there's no nutshell, it's many chapters long and concerns interpretations/extensions of several different biblical commnadments/prohibitions). The Torah/Halacha is stricter when the loss would be incurred by a fellow Jew.
In other words: It's not okay to cause a total loss to anyone (whether they are Jewish or not). In certain cases the restrictions will be greater when there's possibility of a loss and the other party is a fellow Jew.
@OP kudos for an awesome thread! And ya I'm an addict, but I think the addictiveness is at least loosely proportionate to $$$ earned/saved.
Interesting take. I wonder if addiction specialists would take that into consideration when assessing a DDF addiction.
