I'll be in Punta Cana at the end of the month. Staying at the Hard Rock.

Previously, I've been to PR, Grand Cayman, and Roatan.

Looking forward to exploring the rest of the Caribbean with all my saved up Avios!

How do those 3 compare IYO? Which would you go back to if any?
I've only been to one of them.

One Beautiful quiet Island is St Kitts.   St Kitts and Nevis.    I went with my wife in March and must say it was a great quiet beautiful trip.  There are beautiful beaches all around  with a small boat ride to nevis(quieter).    I went Ziplining which is a must and magnificent doing the full version with all zips.   Another great activity- We took a catamaran boat ride for the day, more of like a party boat with alcahol and jokes and they served non kosher food but just warmed up in microwave Hot Pomegrante Fettucini and bakeziti and wrapped in towel for an early lunch on the boat.  Then we went snorkeling off boat.   There are some night activities as well around town,   For a few days this place was beatiful for Relaxing with even a few great things to do.
St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino. The only hotel there in st kitts.   casino too inside and  very  friendly hotel

Overall it was a true amazing vacation but unfortunately no shul or minyan.   I did not see one other jew there    :)

Weather is really great there with very little rain if any and I believe its out of the hurricane zone.

I really enjoyed GC, specifically spending time at Stingray City, where you hang out on a sand bar and pet the stingrays.

Roatan was a day stop during a cruise, several years ago. I had fun riding mopeds around. It was pretty rustic.

It seems like St Maarten or Antigua is the best bet value wise from NYC.. Via Avios.

Any other recommendations for easy/cheap island trips from NYC?

Depends what your criteria are. I personally would never go to SXM again - crowded (sub-par) beaches all over and many people taking advantage of clothing optional culture. Can't decide which side I liked less - the French side was more of a turn off but the Dutch side had nothing positive going for it.

Antigua is another island at the very bottom of my list. The main city (St. John) is like Harlem and Vegas rolled into one and I would never set foot there again. Leaving the city and circling the island, the drive along the coast that should have been beautiful was instead completely blocked by houses. Now if you get off the plane in Antigua and make a beeline for Barbuda though, it's a whole different answer.

Totally agree about SKB & NEV. I spent more time on Nevis (ferrying between the two is easy with a car) but both islands fit my criteria for relaxing sunny getaway. Stayed in hotel on a defunct sugar plantation that had views so amazing, the pictures I took from my room with a cell phone camera look like postcards. Countless beaches and only a few thousand people on the island means there is always a beach you can own, any time of day.

Not to forget, one really fun aspect of Nevis was the roaming wildlife everywhere. OK, the only exciting sounding animals there were monkeys (cute and shy, but I was able to lure one in for a picture with Oreos), but the wild goats, chickens, and cows also added to the culture of "nothing matters here".

For adventurers, climbing Mt. Nevis is a fun challenge and you can sign your name on the guestbook at the top if you make it. It's a muddy rainforest most of the way up but the monkeys will often join your tour and help show you the way (at least according to my guide, though the monkeys we ran into kept their distance).

Thanks for the reply!

Can I get to Nevis via Avios or any other award deal options?

I got it on groupon for half price. Open suite with balcony and full kitchen for 200 and a 25$ per night credit.... which i took off the final bill. Totally worth it at that level, though for 350 you won't see it as a value.

Flying into nev can be done through SJU but no points frok there. Better off taking AA to SKB and ferrying over the channel.

Looking for a very empty, non-touristy island. Like Barbuda or emptier. Suggestions?

Emptirr than Barbuda? You'll be hard pressed. Unless you plan on going to an unnamed piece of rock....
