« on: August 28, 2012, 04:42:13 PM »
I'm going to syd iy"H in 2 weeks.

Traveling with 2 infants- 5 months & 21 Months.

Also need ideas on taking 2 lap babies. Anyone did such a travel before? Any Ideas?

need to be in two different rows because of the oxygen mask requirements.  probably best to take the two aisle seats across from each other.

There's currently no aisle seats displayed online.
Would they accommodate that for me? (i.e upgrade me to economy plus)

AA will not allow any stroller over 20lbs, it must be checked in. (Don't risk a YMMV - believe me!). Take 2 singles or a single and a snap and go and if there is an avail seat you can bring the carseat on.

Many of the economy+ seats are exit rows which they are not allowed to give to lap infant holders (or any children).

Good luck on the trip! Ask really nicely and try to get them to give you seats with empty ones nearby.
It is all from Hashem and he will continue to give!

It's united. What's their policy?

Isn't the bassinet placed in an exit row?

Nope its in bulkhead which also has a bit more leg room. I would take 2 single strollers as it will be easier to maneuver around

let me rephrase what i meant;
Bassinets are usually in the center which only leaves me a chance of 1 aisle seat being that the other aisle seat will be in an exit row.

You may want to consider this GoGo Babyz Kidz Travelmate http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JJK9EY/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00 you could hook it onto the car seat and roll it like a stroller its perfect for the 21 month old  . I've traveled with it and it's a life saver.

I would try to bring the double stroller to the gate and have this and a baby carrier as backup
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

We once flew with 2 lap infants with Qantas from AUS . They allowed all of us in the same row with bassinet. Was not easy...

We have only ever flown with a single stroller as my mom owns another single so we use 2 singles. Never flown with a carseat either. I do know they don't always give you back your stroller at the gate so I would recommend a baby carrier.

Probably the most annoying thing is because its bulkhead the armrests do not move so your older kid will not be able to lie on both of you. We sort of tried to hide my daughter under the bassinet with a blanket hanging off the side of the bassinet to hide her. From experience some stewardesses turn a blind eye and some make you wake up the kid and move them :( some really bad ones actually wait till you wake them up and move them so you can't just say 'yeah, yeah' and not do it.

I would recommend you bring a dvd player for your older child plus put things/games they like on your ipod. Also bring some small electronic toys. We have two of this toy and the kids love it http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Einstein-Take-Along-Tunes/dp/B000YDDF6O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346198118&sr=8-1&keywords=baby+einstein. You would think that it makes so much noise and it will disturb your neighbours but the engine noise is really loud so only the person playing with it will be able to hear. Things that take ages to eat eg. cheerios, raisins, those tiny cookies in the yellow bags, twinkies are perfect for takeoff and landing.

Try to nurse/give formula to baby on descent. Pacifier works well too.

What ages were your children?

what songs & how many does the toy play?

Anyone else have ideas of how to entertain a 21 month yr old on a long flight??

One was 4 weeks old and one had just turned two. It was a return trip that was started before she was two. 4 week old was easy, eat, diaper change, sleep, eat...on repeat. My 24 month old couldn't sit still.

The toy plays a few tunes for like 10-15 seconds each but it lights up and is good for the 5 month old as well. We also love our v-tech laptop http://www.amazon.com/Vtech-Babys-Learning-Laptop-Pink/dp/B00241NQA4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1346392019&sr=8-4&keywords=v-tech+laptop

You can also take play doh, crayons and colouring book, and a few books. Also you can buy a pack of like 200 stickers. So much fun and time consuming unsticking them and resticking them on paper. If your 21 month is a girl fake necklaces, rings etc should get her excited.

I've heard that sometimes united flights can be empty or only 75% full now there's more competition. I would recommend you ask someone at check-in if there's a spare row available and would take that for you and your 21 month old and have your wife and baby with the bassinet. Baby should sleep majority of the flight without being disturbed by the 21 month old and there will also be a better chance of 21 month old actually sleeping. You can put the seat belt from the middle row over the child while they sleep so they cant fall and you can sleep too.

Little things that are extra useful when flying:
  • Disposable bibs.
  • Disposable diaper change mats.
  • Think about a way to have constant easy access to diapers, baby fresh, etc.
One way is to put some in each of your carry-on bags, so whatever bag you happen to have near you, you will have what you need.
  • Lots of zip-lock bags for the constant stream of trash that toddlers are so capable of creating.
[Flight attendants are not always immediately available to pick up your trash, and you might not be able to do it yourself if there is turbulence etc.]
This can also come into handy if clothing becomes soiled and you don't want it to come into direct contact with the rest of the stuff in your carry-on.
  • Get the 21 month-old a spill-proof cup, and have the flight attendant fill it with water, as needed.
  • If you have even the slightest concern that your toddler might be prone to motion-sickness, a pair of accu-pressure wrist-bands will really make a difference.

One of our kids loved the "ding" sound when you press the flight-attendant-button, and drove them mad for the whole flight. Since then, whenever we fly with a kid in the 1-3 year old range, we take some adhesive labels in case we need to stick it over the button so it can't be pressed.
