Picking up car rental with different name...

I have a rental booked by Avis for next week. I won't be able to make it that day, but I don't want to lose the rate. Could I send someone else to pick it up for me, and then I will add myself as an additional renter?

with hertz you can change it on the spot or call CS and they will change the name

If not just say something like "the name on the reservation is ChAiM'l." I've done it plenty of times without a problem.
