With my wife's Amex (spg) they did a point clawback after 3 months in the negative, I still had the points so it just got deducted.

I wonder if you sell or redeem your SPG points and they attempt a claw-back, if they threaten to charge a fee what rate would it be? 1cpm? It would be worth it.

Not sure, I have done this many times with AA and chase, they just post a negative blanace. With AA you can close your account or convert the card to a non AA and the miles are yours to keep. Amex has never liked me (I guess rightfully so)
With Citi aa did you do it for the bonus miles? Is that what was clawed back, or only the the actual spend miles?

Citi did not clawback. I use it all the time for my own version of AA "points advance".  (remember that if you purchase a refundable ticket on AA they give double miles on some AA cards)

The reason I opened the Gold business was because they had 75k promotion if you soend 10k...

How about Gift Cards with Amex? Are they always considered as regular purchases and count towards the spending treshold?

I would be investing some money but I guess I will eventually spend it..

How about buying some amex gift cards in a grocery to double on the miles? On AMex.com?

Anyone with some experience?

I have tried searching the Forum but have come up with minimal success.
you prob had minimal success because of the way you spelled threshold - its tHreshold..there are multiple threads with this as part of its title
