Problems choosing seats on AA from a BA award booking

I searched and didn't see a thread about this, so if i missed it then i apologize for the repost...

So I booked a ticket for two family members with my BA avios., but it's not giving me the option to choose seats online, it just says to choose seats at check-in. Also, i'm trying to find the AA record locator on aa.com but it's not coming up for some reason.
I know that in the past with BA bookings I was able to choose seats in advance...
Anyone know of this problem/have any advice?

Put in your BA record locator on checkmytrip.com all they'll pull up your AA record locator, which you can use to login to AA, and choose your seats.

I keep trying, and it's still giving me that error. I called and they want to charge me $50 to choose seats on the phone.

Finally got an explanation- apparently, for whatever reason, if you book an infant then AA does not let you choose seats. Supposedly I have to contact BA and tell them to remove the infant, then get the seats, and then re-add the infant to the reservation.
This is beyond annoying 
Normally I wouldn't care about seating arrangements but in this case, it would be awful with the parents sitting rows apart with an infant
EDIT: just called BA and they never heard of such stupidity (with regards to removing the infant from reservation) and can't help me from their end

Log in to to manage my booking on cathay.com and you'll be able to select your seat, meal etc
