Man this Wiki needs help...

What's with food? What can/can't you bring into CR and where can you get kosher food?
Seems like someone wants to use up his anniversary nights before the price goes up on the Andaz

Flew into LIR a few weeks ago with a full suitcase of Pom meals. They opened my suitcase & went through everything but didn't give me any problems.
I had a smaller bag with some fresh fruit. sandwiches etc they were so focused on the meals they didn't even look at it.

You can bring just about any food they specifically allow any usda or equivalent foods and any store sealed foods. customs inspectors told me any vacuum sealed food will be allowed.

The Walmart has a large selection of kosher foods though american products are expensive, fruit and locally made products are very cheap, beer was the equivalent of 10 cents a can. The bananas were a nickle a bunch and have a better taste difference than pineapples in Hawaii. There is a kosher combo, deli, grocery, restaurant downtown that does catering and delivery arranged before you arrive but charges in US dollars. It is about 10-15 min from Walmart or the SJO if you go their they charge local prices. they have a large selection of meats from Uruguay. Restaurant's food is outstanding and about 8 dollars for a meal and drink. I brought a cooler and filled it with meat which we grilled on grill from Walmart, and cooked shabbos food in a crockpot.
(prices and information are from 2016)
Ribs

Just booked Jetblue from JFK-LIR round trip from July 28-Aug 1. Plan is to arrive in LIR around 2 pm and head to Arenal. Going to spend two night in Arenal and then drive back to Guanacaste Tuesday late afternoon. Will stay in Guanacaste Tuesday night and Wednesday night and flying out 2 pm on Thursday. Still researching hotels but it seems like Andaz is the best option for Guanacaste and in Arenal Iím down to deciding between Nayara, Tabacon, and The Springs. Any input or tips is appreciated!
I will likely order food from SJO to Arenal, which is over $200 delivery fee. If anyone will be in the area at that time and wants to do a joint order, please PM me

I also see a lot of people stressing over phone service. I honestly don't recall what I did the last time I went to Costa Rica, but I just called Verizon and was told that for $10/day I can use "travelpass" which gives me access to unlimited talk, text, and data while in Costa Rica. No need to deal with any SIM cards or anything like that

Does anyone have any knowledge of hotels in Arenal? So far I have only seen mention of people staying at Nayara. Is that my best option?

We stayed at the Tabacon (not so nice) and at the Nayara Springs (out of this world). For Kosher catered take-out, contact Fraida at +506-6051-8181. She is great and incredibly sweet.
