I have 1k status with United as a status match what is my best route in getting upgraded to first class when flying to lax from nyc?
Do I have to make a stop over to get first class the whole way?
Is flying direct from one of the airports big chance in getting me a upgrade?

You can't get a CPU on LAX-JFK.
You can from LAX-EWR, but it's very hard.
For best CPU odds fly LAX-CLE-LGA/EWR.

On the flights with regular domestic first, for a 1k, it shouldn't be all that hard. (IME)

I thought United doesnt challenge, and only give silver/gold/plat challenges?

@PG -- I've heard of at least a couple stories of UA status matching. I believe TPG got a status match as well.

I found a flight in United going thru Cle however it says operated thru this Chautauqua airlines will I still get upgraded?
What is that airline?

No that's coach only though the flight is just an hour in the air.

When I was 1K, every single domestic flight was upgraded one level.

Really? IME, the domestic F on LAX-CLE was nothing really special. Personally, I'd rather fly LAX-NYC in E+ (free for 1Ks) than LAX-CLE-NYC in domestic F. The few small advantages of domestic F are outweighed by the convenience of nonstop in E+, IMHO.

I didn't say it was anything special, I said for the best odds of sitting in F.

Anyway there is no true E+ on the LAX-JFK planes. All of economy on that flight is 34" pitch, 17" width.
F on the 737NGs for LAX-CLE-NYC is 38" pitch, 21" width in leather seats and have free directv, food, and bev. The CPU odds for a 1K are nearly 100%. Of course it's not a nonstop but that's not what he was asking for.

LAX-EWR often sells out with revenue tickets or paid upgrades, there's very little CPU inventory and LAX-JFK isn't CPU eligible.

Depends on the flight.
EWR always has F, LGA does on 1 or 2 flight per day.

if i book an international economy class saver ticket, will i / what are the chances to get up upgraded to business?

and if i book someone else from my account im assuming they get the benefits as well? domestic (and international if there is)
