Wow. The prices of Apple products per spec still astounds me. That's a "good deal"??

the specs are not too great but I hear that apple quality is amazing
I have an awful windows computer that is loaded with specs but real garbage. Macs seem to be very good quality

Weeeellll.... its a bit more complicated than that.
Problem is, I'm scared to go into detail for it will surely start another mac vs PC flame war. They grow tiresome.
So I'll just keep it simple:
Apple is all about the user experience. They spend most of their resources tweaking the UI to feel "magical" (their word, not mine!). You could buy a far inferior computing machine, however it will "feel" like it is performing better due to their fancy OS tricks. To many people, that is sufficient. However, this has very little to do with actual "quality" of the hardware. In fact, the internal chips come from the same sources (Intel, etc) and are almost identical these days.
The end result is that the computer feels faster, but working with large files in Photoshop or even converting your library into mp3 music will go significantly slower.
