It's a bang bang play at first. Obviously he beat the throw, but it wasn't so blatant that an ump would never make a mistake on the call. Much worse was what happened to the mets last week. In that situation it wasn't clear, even after replay whether he touched the first base bag, but you can't stick your neck out with a practically unheard of call in a situation like that.,
with so much on the line they gotta get it right!!!

He fell over the wall, pretended to have made the catch, and got the call anyway without being anywhere near the ball.
The ball hit his glove and he did not pretend anything.

More specifically, wild card race. Though the whole things feels so strange now with the wild card play-in game. It really downgrades the achievement of the first wild card team. They can be miles better than the second wild card, but anyone can win one game.

They're a wild card team. Why should they be rewarded. What achievement is being downgraded?  If you remember fifteen years ago there was no wild card

You can have the 2nd best record in all of baseball and still be the 1st wild card. While that situation had always somewhat unfair in that such a wild card never had home field advantage and had to play the best team (unless they were in the same division), at least that team had a 5 game series in which you can shrug off one bad game. It's true that the 2nd best team in baseball could have missed the playoffs entirely if they didn't win their division before they added the wild card, but that's why the original wild card was actually a good idea, if not necessarily implemented as well as it could have been.

Still reading through this Wiki page, but already I found this gem:

...two teams tied for a division championship must play a tie breaking game even if both teams have already qualified for the postseason.
