AA Award Change Route

Hey everybody,

I can't find this specific topic discussed anywhere:

I am booked on First Class AA MileSaver award BKK-HKG-NRT-ORD-PHL

If more direct CX award opportunities open up closer to the date of travel will I be able to change just the connecting flights as long as I keep the same origin and destination?

From the AA website:  A $150 USD charge will apply for a confirmed change to an eligible origin or destination on a MileSAAver® award

Does that mean only if you change origin or destination but you are allowed to change connecting flights?

That's right, you won't be charged if you change flights as long as the origin and destination stay the same... You will only get some refunds in taxes

I have changed a TLV-EWR to a TLV-MAD-JFK, at no charge other then taxes.

No charge when you still have the same origin & destination. However, unless you have status, you will be charged $75 if the change results in travel date within 21 days (even when the O&D still the same).

You are close, but no cigar.  AA actually doesn't charge the $75 unless the change makes the new travel date go from beyond 21 days to within 21 days of the ticketing date.
This was to close the loophole of avoiding expedite fees.

Of course they're different.
OneWorld awards are the most restrictive awards ever created, they have more rules than the agents even know how to enforce!

i know there are many rules, but whenever theres a change in routing they claim they have to reissue the whole ticket. so they refund the miles and taxes then retake the miles and recharge the taxes, and charge a reissue fee
so it would seem that thats how their system works regardless of what type of award it is

Not in my cases: I've changed the routing and/or the date while keeping the same O&D. I wasn't charged any other fees beside the orginial amount. and sometimes get a refund on the tax amount. I have no AA status.

I have no idea why you keep equating the crazy OW world with the traditional All-Partner award, but you are wrong.

like i said, thats what my reasoning was. for routing changes in a oneworld, it appeared that the charge was for reissuing, which i thought was how their systems worked, not a fee for 'breaking' the rules.

but apparently they are different. i wasnt arguing with you
