Use of expiring Qantas Points
« on: May 12, 2023, 08:48:23 AM »
Hi everyone,
I live in NY and have around 90k Qantas points that are set to expire in a few weeks. My schedule doesn't really have much availability for flights (especially to Israel) to other countries and after calling them they are unwilling to extend the life of the points. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to best use these points before they expire? TIA

Do they still allow free cancellations? I’ve had success with booking a random ticket and cancelling. Even without free cancellation, you can book a flight from MEL-SYD for a few thousand points and that will extend the validity of the remaining points.

That was my idea as a well. If you do try a points transfer please report back your DP...I am in the same boat with miles expiring later this summer.

I decided to conduct my own experiment. I can confirm that transferring points did reset the expiration.

Also, I forgot to mention that the transfer was instantaneous

I had about 300k miles that expired in Jun, Qantas told me that to reinstate them I would have to earn 2500 miles from 2 different sources and only 1 of them can be a CC transfer. Does anybody have an idea how I can earn QF miles without living in Australia? I'm willing to pay....

Are you sure only one can be a CC transfer?

I just took the same challenge and it just says "from two different sources".

They repeated 3 times on the phone that two different sources cannot be 2 CC transfers from 2 banks, it has to be 2 different type of activities.

Make a reservation and credit the points from your stay/rental/flight to Qantas from any of their partners.

Convert 10,000 Hilton Honors Points to 1,500 Qantas Points.

Or it'll cost you $200/$300 to meet the challenge, but should be worth it for your points.
Check in at a location close to home such as the ones listed below- no need to take a trip.

-700 Qantas Points per rental outside Australia on Avis and Budget.
-Choice Hotels 600 Qantas Points for every stay outside Australia.
-up to 500 Qantas Points per stay outside Australia, on qualifying stays at IHG
-Earn up to 1,000 Qantas Points on eligible stays with Hyatt.
