Start a thread "Where were you on November 22, 1963? It will be very short.

Sure, start up with an old man!!
I just got home from Yeshivah - a Friday afternoon, so it was around 12:30, and that's when Kennedy got shot! I remember it clearly.
Also remember Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
I can't seem to recall President Lincoln!
Again, Gmar Chasimah Tova to you all and looking forward IYH to a great year

Yes sir. Even my parents would barely remember where they were.

Where were you?
Under the kitchen table watching TV. The 13" B&W TV was on a little stand. Not sure why but we didn't have school that day. Maybe parent/teachers conference day or something.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Only reason I knew the significance of that date right away is that when my son was born everyone old enough to remember it said, "Oh, his birthday is on the day JFK was shot."

So what you're saying is that one day when we're all old and grey, we'll be telling the youngsters "I remember Sep. 11th like yesterday" and they'll be looking up their <Google inheritor> to find out what that is? :o

My initial reaction is the 9/11 is different from 11/22, but that's probably just because I remember the former and not the latter. People who remember JFK describe that day similarly - everyone remembers where they were, etc. Only difference I can think of is that 9/11 has always been known and remembered by its date. Everyone knows that JFK was assassinated, but people who weren't alive don't remember the date.

I think 9/11 will always be in the American psyche as the day was always so integral to the reporting (9/11 attack) versus JFK where it was the JFK assassination and not the 11/22 assassination.

Plus 9/11 changed this nation a whole lot more than JFK's assassination.  Things like the TSA, Snowden, and tons of other stuff would never come into being without 9/11.

Though it is crazy talking to my younger brother who wasn't even alive on 9/11.  Hard to comprehend not living through the horror of that day.

That's what I was thinking after I posted, but still no guarantees that 25 years from now it will be forgotten.
Considering that when Bin Laden was killed there was a flurry of "who is this bin-laden dude?" on Twitter.

I don't think it will be forgotten, it just won't remembered the same way as people who lived through the ordeal. Like with JFK, i know what happened, but i will never know what it was like to live through it.

An assassination of a President is not like a terror attack, no matter how big it is. Of course people who are into these things will always know about it, but the average teenager in America...

I think that while both events were different, they both affected the nation as a whole.

Ask anyone even older than CV (or Mutty :P) where they were 12/7/41 and you hear stories the same way we speak about 9/11.
Even I remembered the date and I wasn't born till about 50 yrs later.

That is why you can't compare the two. I was not born at the time (1941) of PH but I know all about it. Google is going to get a work out.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I guess it boils down to how much attention you paid in school.

Personally i like to know "random facts" in case i get pulled into a game show :)

True, but most young people would be hard pressed to tell you the date.
