Kosher Sushi Cookbook
« on: September 11, 2012, 04:56:31 PM »
I have spent an considerable amount of time (4 minutes and counting) on Amazon and Google trying to find a good kosher sushi recipe book but alas I have returned empty handed.

Any suggestions?

There aren't really any recipes. You need to know how to make the rice, the rolling technique, and you just fill with whatever you like. I once even had a roll filled with lettuce and schnitzel with some Russian dressing, it was actually really good

I doubt that there is one yet. Why don't you get a non-kosher book, and substitute?

All the times I've attempted my own sushi, I never got the rice to be perfect. Any tips?

PrimeKo's roast beef sushi roll is outstanding :)

Well I got a sushi roller so that is alright but was looking for ideas for things like tempura.
In Johannesburg there is a kosher place that sells chicken sushi(pretty good).

I was thinking about that but afraid to have one of those books were I have to substitute everything except the rice.

If you already know how to make basic sushi, why don't you just pick up a menu from one of the local kosher joints and duplicate their rolls?

The tempura is what gets to me as I need to sneak in and see how they do it I guess. I guess if all else fails a trip to Japan is planned and I shall master all the skills.

You mean the recipe or the method? The method is pretty straightforward, and you can buy kosher tempura mixes if you don't want to bother mixing together the few ingredients.

The Dairy Gourmet by Sarah Lasry is a kosher cookbook and has a section on sushi. I never used any of the sushi recipes so cant give any feedback on them, but the rest of the cookbook is really great.
