Starwood points are the highest mileage currency out there. With being able to stay at the Dead Sea for only 3000 points during a week day and only 2000 points on a Friday night they are really awesome. They also have ability to transfer to over 25 different airlines at a 1:1 ratio, but every 20,000 your transfer you get 25,000 (an extra 5,000 for every 20,000 you transfer). Some transfers both names need to match and some only last names. The best is when you can transfer to a different person completely too really make your miles flexible. Also a big problem with these points is that it could take a long time to transfer. So below, we will try to make a chart of, do the names need to match and how long the transfers take.

DATA:

SPG - Transferring from SPG account to another requires the same mailing address on both accounts for at least 30 days. (i.e. this works for spouses). Takes about 5-10 days to transfer.

Aegean -

Aeromexico Club Premier -

Aeroplan - Names don't need to match. - Usually takes about a day and half to 2 days to transfer.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - First and Last names need to match. - Takes two business days.

Alitalia MilleMiglia -

American Airlines - Only last name needs to match. - Transfer usually takes a day. Sometime can take 2 days if you transfer it late in the day.

Asia Miles

China Eastern

Delta - Transfers post 2 days later - If First and last names dont match then transfer wont go through (Not sure if different first name and same last name works)

Emirates Skywards

Etihad Airways - Last names need to match. Takes about a week to transfer.

Flying Blue- Requested Wednesday, transfer completed following Tuesday (names matched)

JAL - Both names need to match. Can take upto 3 weeks to transfer.

Korean -

LAN Airlines -

Miles and More/LH/Lufthansa - It's been taking forever recently 3-4 days
Last name matching will go through (even if first name doesn't).

Singapore Airlines -

United Airlines -

US Airways - Names don't need to match. - Most transfers go through the next day. Some might take an extra day.

Virgin Atlantic -

Virgin America -

Virgin Australia -

Just initiated a SPG>JAL transfer. Will either SPG or JAL notify by email once it's complete, or do I just have to keep checking?
How long did it take for your transfer to go thru?

Initiated it on a Wednesday afternoon, and it posted overnight Monday/Tuesday. But New Years was Friday so no idea if that had any effect or not...

Booked for wife, kid and myself. The rep mentioned something about only being able to book for family members, but when I told her it was my wife and kid, she said it's fine and that was it. Didn't ask for any proof like KE does, but then again, we all have the same last name so maybe she didn't bother asking for proof.

I see in the wiki something regarding 2000 points in the dead Sea. Is that still valid? It looks like it was recently updated.

Datapoint - no luck here - successful for same name, but not for x-fer for spouse. X-fer took about 2.5 weeks. Also, it did not extend the A3 expiration date in AW, still  showing past expiration on both A3 accounts (both where mile posted, and where it did not) but the miles are still in both accts.
Grateful.

No, a bit stranger - sent over 1 mile to my A3 acct, and 1 to my spouses. Both show deducted from my SPG acct. (end of Dec.). The mile posted to my A3 acct. mid Jan, but the one to the spouse acct never posted... and never was re-credited to my SPG acct either. Didn't chase it any further.

Guess I could have moved 1 Starwood point over to her SPG acct, and then transferred over from there... but the miles still haven't expired even though the date has past.
Grateful.

To transfer SPG to SPG, it will require the same address for 30 days. Can I just create a new account with that address and transfer it instantly ?

Any recent timeframe on SPG to Aeroplan?
