Starwood points are the highest mileage currency out there. With being able to stay at the Dead Sea for only 3000 points during a week day and only 2000 points on a Friday night they are really awesome. They also have ability to transfer to over 25 different airlines at a 1:1 ratio, but every 20,000 your transfer you get 25,000 (an extra 5,000 for every 20,000 you transfer). Some transfers both names need to match and some only last names. The best is when you can transfer to a different person completely too really make your miles flexible. Also a big problem with these points is that it could take a long time to transfer. So below, we will try to make a chart of, do the names need to match and how long the transfers take.

DATA:

SPG - Transferring from SPG account to another requires the same mailing address on both accounts for at least 30 days. (i.e. this works for spouses). Takes about 5-10 days to transfer.

Aegean -

Aeromexico Club Premier -

Aeroplan - Names don't need to match. - Usually takes about a day and half to 2 days to transfer.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - First and Last names need to match. - Takes two business days.

Alitalia MilleMiglia -

American Airlines - Only last name needs to match. - Transfer usually takes a day. Sometime can take 2 days if you transfer it late in the day.

Asia Miles

China Eastern

Delta - Transfers post 2 days later - If First and last names dont match then transfer wont go through (Not sure if different first name and same last name works)

Emirates Skywards

Etihad Airways - Last names need to match. Takes about a week to transfer.

Flying Blue- Requested Wednesday, transfer completed following Tuesday (names matched)

JAL - Both names need to match. Can take upto 3 weeks to transfer.

Korean -

LAN Airlines -

Miles and More/LH/Lufthansa - It's been taking forever recently 3-4 days
Last name matching will go through (even if first name doesn't).

Singapore Airlines -

United Airlines -

US Airways - Names don't need to match. - Most transfers go through the next day. Some might take an extra day.

Virgin Atlantic -

Virgin America -

Virgin Australia -

that sounds way too long.
There's a weekend within that timeframe. But what are the options? What can I do? Called Marriott today and they said it could take 1-2 WEEKS.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

How long for transfer between Marriott and AA? Still waiting since 6/14. >:(
Points showed up this morning in AA account with a transaction date of 6/14. Showed up as one transaction (that included the AA 25% bonus).

Luckily still in time to avoid AA expedite fee.

I would also like to take this opportunity to that the בעל אכסניה for all his work and detailed posts. Thanks to the posts (and twitter messages about them) I was able to book a RT for a family member from Australia (not SYD or MEL) to TLV in J for a very reasonable cost. I actually suggested a TLV-Australia itinerary that involved Etihad in 1st class between AUH-SYD (connecting there to final destination) but the family member preferred to take go via HKG in J, so that if CX opens up J for TLV-HKG a switch can be made without redeposit/expedite (Etihad wasn't available in J to Australia).

Now if I can get some detailed tips on how to redeposit the hotel certificate from Marriott, that would be totally awesome!

Just PUTPAC, it's fairly straightforward FWIU. Much better option is to just sell it for ~$300 since you only get 45k Marriott back for it which is worth a lot less than $300.

45k Marriott is 15k SPG, which based on various valuations (including what was currently paid) is ~$300 (or more).

PUTPAC and say what? That I couldn't find a hotel for the trip, and want to redeposit now?

15k at 1.6 is $240, Idk what you paid but that's pretty much the going rate (maybe not for such a small amount.) Either way, cash is king.

But if we value the SPG points based on the most recent redemption which was Marriott nights+flights that gave a RT Australia-TLV in J for 90k SPG points, then I think the value is better than 1.6.

True so if you're planning on buying more to book another one then getting cash towards it makes more sense, the $300 will get you 18,750 SPG instead of 15k (at 1.6)

Depends on the size but for smaller amounts 1.6 is normal for buying (on whatsapp and such)

usually better off transferring it out to another company then selling it might get more value

1.6 is cheap unless your getting a stay out of it.

Any DP on transfers to LATAM (LAN)? Also does LATAM have any fees associated with redemptions, or is it just the KMs and airport fees/taxes?

AC took almost a week to show up.
