Im flying on Swiss and Lufthansa - JFK - TLV.

Whats Swiss baggage policy?
Whats Lufthansa baggage policy?

Does my BMI Gold get me anything?? (baggage? seats? upgrade?)

 Coach or Biz? Coach Id assume youd get the reg 2 bags, Biz I think will give you some more weight allowed per bag as well as 3rd bag

They've made mince meat with the luggage policies. Always reconfirm.

It is 1x 20kg for eco, +20kg with a gold card, or + 1 case.

However it varies from case to case.
Note, 1 piece is never allowed to weigh more then 32kg.

 Thats if you are starting or ending in Europe, isnt it more if a person is flying to or from the US?

Here are the rules with swiss. I am almost sure that lufthansa has the same.
All flights that dont end or start in the u.s:
Economy 20 kg
Business 30 kg
First.   40 kg
Star alliance gold will give you an extra 20 kg plus whatever u r allowed acording ti ur booking class
Note: it does not matter how many cases u have aslong as its not more then the allowed weight. You could for example send 20 hatboxes if every box is only a kilo. Its called weight concept
Any ticket starting or ending in the us is a piece concept


Economy 2 suitcases every suitcase maximum 23 kg
Business or first 2 suitcases each one not more then 32 kg

As a star gold you get one extra suitcase when its the piece concept, so in eco 3x23 and in business 3x32
They really only count the pieces, dont try to check in ur hatbox, they will count that as one piece, even if it weights only half a kilo

I would still call. To and from the USA, I've had all kind of results.
Lately I had a us airways eco, connecting to a lufthansa first.
I called us airways (that's where I check in), and got 3 different responses, none of them matching their sites info...

Superflyer, your ticket is more complicated. You are flying with US in economy and then connecting.

So for US airways you are a non international passenger in Economy, why should they give you the same allowance as you will have later on by Lufthansa? If you booked all on one ticket, then you are a international passenger and thats just a feeder flight. But US might look at you as a Eco. international. In such a case there is no clear rules. Every agent on the phone will tell you something else. The check in agent at the airport might decide diffrently, as long as you have nothing in writing, the checkin agent and her supervisors decision is all that matters.

Superflyer, its always a hassle if you connect in diffrent classes and its not on the same airline. So I can imagine going from PHL to JFK in eco and connecting on LH F will be problematic on the weight rules.

If he has a flight Jfk-Zrh-Tlv or Tlv-Fra-Jfk the rules are as quoted by me. Even if he has a stopover in Zuerich as long as its one ticket he can take his 3x32 suitcases from Zrh-Tlv. Note if its two seperate tickets only 50 Kg would be allowed (30 in business and 20 for *Gold)(there is no F from Zrh-tlv)

Handluggage Swiss Business: 2 pices a 8 Kg
                      Thai          : 1 piece

Luggage: Swiss Business 50 Kg
              Thai              60 Kg

Well I would say even if you can bring 2 handl. on swiss, thai will only let you through with one so take one.
Luggage is a tough one. My guess if its all on one ticket, zou can tell the check in agent, that you are continuing in first so they should let you through with 60 Kg. If they say no its a swiss flight, tell them you only have 1 handluggage and according to swiss have a right for another 8 Kilos. ;-)
But the checkin in Bru is known to be really bad

I flew all the way to MEL, and I had 1 hand luggage of 9.5 kg, and they gave me hell...

 I had the samething with QF and EK SYD-AKL and was forced to check my carry-on since it weighed too much. Seems if you get thru with it down there and its overweight they fine you. I went coach so was real over, but they said Id be over if in Biz as well since its 7kg for those in Biz, I was close to 15kg
