Well usually people use their go pro to try to recreate what they see and that's why the angle used is very wide (~170 degrees) so that you are immersed into the scenery... But I know that gopro offer free software to correct the pictures if they are too convex for you...
After use of the software is there a visible convex in say a 4 x 6 or 5 x 7? I would not mind working on my better photos if that is what it takes.

I don't know. But u can look it up online. Bad reviews about how convex the pictures are, are very seldom.

I am not sure I want to go with the Go Pro as I  take more stills than video. I am thinking about just buying a case (WP-DC39) for my Canon Elph 100 HS. They go for about 240 dollars and have a depth of 40 meters.

Any opinions?

I don't know much on the matter but doesn't it feel weird paying twice as much for the case as the camera itself costs

I ended up buying a 50 dollar case (WP-DC39) for my canon elph 100 HS which goes to only 10 feet but was so cheap I just went for it.

Thank you!

Yes I took it in Maui off of Makena beach. I did not have such high expactations for the camera/case but it worked out really well. Got alot of great pics of fish as well.

I also have a regular waterproof case for an old Casio Exilim camera that I have but I wanted to bring something when scuba diving... as I am sure those cases would not handle the pressure (even if they advertise 40 feet depth...)

I figured in regard to scuba that I would also want to buy a strobe plus a good case as you mention so I figured for now I would just have this cheap case and when I go scuba again I will just have to make that investment. I stopped going scuba diving for now because I want to get licensed and until I do that it isn't worth it for me to pay for single dives.

Sure. Same thing for my wife and I. We really want to get certified but when you are on an island for just 4-5 days, I never found worth it to just waste 2 days doing only scuba... even if u do all the other classes online at home before...

I know it is crazy but I never have a full week somewhere that I can get certified. I have wanted to do this for close to five years yet never found a good time.

I have a friend that just got licensed in our area... If you want info I could find out for you.

Thanks hope you get some nice one's in Maui too!

Thanks I'm looking forward! I'm debating if I should get a new camera for this, the pics I got in Mexico over Pesach and they didn't come out as clear.

Here are some more shots taken at Molokini. Took me a while to figure out how to resize them.
