Personally I think that if you don't like these things then there is no reason for you to do them. There were so many Israelis in my group who were freaked out and doing it only to impress the Chavreh or their GF/BF and I really felt bad for them. One guy was going around the Beit Chabad for a week after with a red blotch on his eye, and I don't mean bloodshot red -picture puddle of blood on a white marble floor red, apparently he was so scared when he jumped he popped a blood vessel in his eye, and I thought Chaval. I always enjoyed and daydreamed of these things but if you are not like that then why torture yourself?

I wasn't talking about people who are scared, I was talking mainly about people who don't want to go.

I'll tell you what. I remember when I was a kid and we went to the roof of the Twin Towers OBM (I was 4-5 IIRC) and I was wondering what it would feel link to jump off and float to the bottom. Similarly many of my daydreams where about flying through the air. If you are like that then by all means go for it; Bungee jumping is the second closest you'll get to actual flying (after skydiving). If not then it's probably not for you.

There is scared and there is scared... most people are scared by the actual jump, but once they are off the ledge they are fine. The bloody eye comes from being scared stiff for a minute straight.

Any more details of the food you ate on the trek itself?  All you mentioned was PB & J and the Dal dish the porters ate.  Also, what were the daytime highs (temp)?  It looked to be around 10Ίc from the jackets people were wearing.

Why would you think that frum people cannot pull such things off? I now frum people, on somewhat of a budget who have been almost anywhere you can imagine! As they say if there is a will there is a way.

It's not that I doubt that frum people are capable of such a thing, it's just that it's a lot more difficult to do an expedition that's kosher when most companies  have a specific way of doing things which involves non kosher food.  It's more of an 'I never thought about it' than a 'I didn't think it was possible.  It's kind of like going to space. I'm sure you can get freeze dried kosher food, but it would be a lot more logistics to work out.

Money is only needed if you want it done as officially as we did it. If you are on a budget its definitely doable, you can bring along a small kerosene cooker and pot, ingredients are available locally with supplements that you can bring along (in the worst case you can hire an extra porter for Bobkes to carry the food).

Most of the food was local Nepali style; plenty of rice and vegetables, Nepali bread called Chapati (flat round cross between a pita and a pancake). Protein was mainly eggs, Tuna and beans. Some western food splashed in for flavor (mainly pasta).

For a week maybe. Nepali food is very bland, and while they did try to vary the menue the excitement wore off pretty quickly (not to mention the altitude that wrecks havoc with your appetite too). Lets just say when it was all over I spent the whole flight back drooling over what I would order as soon as I got to the Beit Chabad.

Nepali food might be more exciting, but there's probably a limit as to what they can take up to Base Camp.  Too much variety and it you'd need more people to carry the stuff for you.  It looked like you had enough of a crew as it is.

Wow! This TR pulled me along. Once I started it I just had to finish it. It was like starting a good book that you don't want to put down, and once it's over you're sad that it is over. That's how I felt about this TR. You are a terrific writer, and if I was an editor of a magazine I'd hire you.

It's actually not as exciting as I thought it would be. I was under the impression it would be more like Indian food, it's actually very bland (think plain cooked rice with nothing added for flavor, except maybe some plain cooked lentils, that's typical Nepal.
