Incorrect. VAR ruled it in play. There's some controversy around what they based it off of though. This image is probably the best look, but wasn't released by FIFA as their proof.

That was not the initial report during play. AFAIK VAR still hasn't ruled either way as it will only make decisions between the posts. The AR changed the decision after looking at the replay.

ETA: Your photo is also on an angle. As you straighten it out more of the ball will be on the line meaning it was in play. You need to see the frames before it and after it.

I was watching live and that's not what I heard. Also, just watched the Fox Soccer highlights and it seemed clear that the call was out of bounds pending VAR. VAR can absolutely check if a ball went out of bounds (are you thinking of the goal line tech?). The goal was given, so to me that means VAR felt it was clear enough that it was in. During the broadcast, they showed the angle that made it look out, but not this alternate angle. Obviously if there are further frames showing the ball continuing on that would change things, but wherever this one came from I would imagine they were smart enough to look at all frames (assuming it was video not an actual still) when selecting.

Sorry as I was using the term VAR as a decision maker like for goals and offsides. Was this available for this decision or was it just a human looking at a video replay?

I just watched it again. It was the male announcer who said it was inconclusive after looking at three or four different angles, so I stand corrected.

Am I reading this right? If Uruguay doesn't make it, it'll be because they had 1 more yellow card today than SK (they both had 3 in the first 2 games), and that 1 extra yellow was Suarez kicking the ball after a foul (fairly light call, and likely only because he was yapping at the ref after several earlier calls). Wow.

I believe it didn't get that far. Most goals scored was the tie-breaker but I could be wrong.

Finally, a team knocks off a powerhouse and advances instead of losing and backdooring your way in.
