Dan, I think you're being too kind to United here. Definitely wouldn't title the post, "devalues some awards to Europe".

I have to agree.
Just check the calendar for EWR-LAX J class over the next few months, nothing under 50K
and no economy non stop under 21K
Besides why are the calendars so messed up?? They are not a small airline like Elal. Unless you use the "legacy" search the calendar shows point amounts that aren't true.
(It has also become one of the slowest working airline websites, almost feels like the old dial up modems)

The lack of saver awards is a separate issue plaguing every airline. That's not in the scope of what happened here.

The fact that they feel they can get away with both of these destroys trust in the program and any loyalty they had. That itself is a big devaluation.

Title is much better. Article itself is also improved, but not to the extent of the title.

Maybe should be clearer, that while perhaps not a surprise, it is still disappointing, etc.

Sure, but I priced that in 3 years ago. I'm just surprised it took this long and that it's limited to one region.

united seems to have raised save award levels from their unofficial chart

example nyc - zrh on july 12, united metal saver 40k, swiss flight 43.9.  lot of other examples to and from europe in summer. 

i havent checked other routes

All this hyperbole is good for getting the airline to think twice about the next deval (not that they won't do it). If they devalued awards like this and it went over quietly you can be sure there will be more coming sooner rather than later.

I wish that were true, but unfortunately the trend seems to be that Airlines feel confident they can get away with pretty much anything when it comes to award program devaluations
