Every airline prices out in the same range, but UA is $400ish more. And it's not just for these dates, its for the whole schedule, what is going on?

Family member is flying United tomorrow morning. Was booked basic economy. Is there anyway to upgrade to business? It doesn't allow them to upgrade online, presumably because it was booked in Basic economy. Is it possible to buy up to regular economy and then upgrade?

Hello,

Maybe you can help. I had a 150 dollar non-refundable ticket, that I had because of a flight I CANCELED, no covid issue here. Well, like an IDIOT, I used this small ticket to book a much larger ticket today, and then I wanted to cancel it today, less than 4 hours later, and I was told NO. Why? Because unwittingly to me, I had taken this small landmine of a ticket and created a MUCH larger landmine of a ticket! I am 1K and they did not care. I sent an email to 1Kvoice, and I called twice, HUCA, and the supervisor told me tough luck this is our policy. A policy that is HORRIBLE! One no one told me about when booking this over the phone to the 1k desk.

Any other ideas? I really do not need this larger ticket hanging around my neck - but if I have to, I guess I will live with it.

I used United farelock to hold a ticket on United.

Is it possible to use travel bank to book that farelock ticket as I don't see any options for that in the payment ?

Anyone well versed in united who can explain how the instant upgrades for elites when booking on the highest paid fare class (y or b)
Does it work for any elite even silver?
Does go to the next cabin (i.e econ to premium plus on 787) or always to business?
Is it an automatic process or do you need to call?

Hope someone can help. I never used any of my United miles. Always seems like very lousy value. Am I missing something? How do I optimize the value of United miles? Was gonna use for domestic but miles value is under a penny! I think I've tried international too, can't remember, it's been awhile....

Some routes are hard to get good value from (TLV-EWR for example).
The sweet spots of using miles in general is for flights that otherwise would cost a disproportionate amount of money such as:
One way flights
Flights to destinations with little competition
Last minute travel
Business class (can cost 3-4 times the price of econ when booked with cash but is usually only 1.5-2 times the price f econ when booked with miles).

I have award tickets booked for multi-leg trip looking to cancel but it's less than 30 days out.
Due to a UA "schedule change" that gives me a free change on my end. But I'm looking to basically cancel out the entire itinerary and would like to book some of the miles for a one-way flight (same pax) in the winter to a diff city entirely.

Should I "change" one leg of the trip to the one i want to use in winter and the other leg of the multi for a far out timeframe so that i can cancel it outright for free award re-deposit once it'll be for 30+ days out?

What's best way to handle this? TIA

As well anyway to use my united travel bank balance to upgrade a siblings account, meaning a siblings flight?
