Using Blackberry (CDMA) in Israel with israeli sim-card
« on: April 16, 2010, 01:56:15 AM »
Is it possible to use my BB Tour in Israel with an Israeli sim card and have my regular BB service simultaneously? Has anyone done this before? I'm not interested in paying exorbitant roaming fees and I'd rather not shlep around two phones.... Any help would be appreciated!

look in "manage connections",  "mobile network options", look at "network mode" whether you can choose GSM. If you cannot, it wont work. Make sure they activate roaming.

It does have that option. Forgive my ignorance, but does that mean that I will be able to use my regular data connection together with making calls/texts from the Israeli sim?

if unlocked you can use the israeli sim for calls only.

your sprint sim card (ask for it by sprint) only will work with blackberry. as blackberry doesnt recognise your israeli number.

I know i am way to late however i just want everyone to know that i just went to israel and I have sprint i called them before i left i told them i am using for business and they gave me a 20 dollar credit for israel use. I told them specifically not to activate my sim card that way i know i am always using sprints services in israel as apposed to israeili sevice which is a lot more expensive either way i was there for almost three weeks and i didnt even spend 10 dollars of my internet (I used my phone alot) This doesnt help for texts just for emails and bbms

Sprint has no towers. What phone do you have? What icon did your phone show at the reception bars? (1x, 1xEV, GPRS, D, 3G etc.)?

Rates should be like $2 per Mb, so you really weren't using much.

How long ago was this? You may get hit with roaming charges that will post much later (they don't always get billed immediately).

On your bill you might be able to see which operator you used.

I know I'm getting a bit off topic here, but did anyone ever try using the sprint airwave in Israel? Since it works through internet, maybe you can avoid roaming altogether. For now the airwave only works for voice and text but I was told by someone at sprint (just a regular rep, not sure if this info is reliable) that they are coming out with a upgraded airwave that can handle data as well. Either way, you would have to be in range on airwave to use so no major gain here even if it does work, I was just wondering....
