I know I'm getting a bit off topic here, but did anyone ever try using the sprint airwave in Israel? Since it works through internet, maybe you can avoid roaming altogether. For now the airwave only works for voice and text but I was told by someone at sprint (just a regular rep, not sure if this info is reliable) that they are coming out with a upgraded airwave that can handle data as well. Either way, you would have to be in range on airwave to use so no major gain here even if it does work, I was just wondering....

That wouldn't work.

(there is no charge to just look at the list of emails you got on your bb its only if you open them does it charge)
That statement is absolutely 100% false. The shred of truth to the statement is that if you open it and read it and scroll down or load the images it'll cost more, but it definitely loads at least 5K of the message just by downloading it.

On a bb, you first get an alert that you got a message you open your icon and see a list of emails you have received- this costs 100% nothing. Once you open it it starts costing you.

What are you basing that on? Downloading the headers uses data, which you get charged for.

i did it in israel, it might cost to receive it but it doesn't cost to check what the header is once it came in, - sorry i clearly was not very clear.

My understanding is that the sim card that comes with your phone, is if you want to use sprint/verizon on gsm roaming.

youre all wrong its all possible im in israel for 8 months already doing this all i did was sign up for (orange) israeli service i did a kosher line so it would be cheaper and when i need bb service or my emails and txts from sprint all i do is go to manage connection and change it to !xev the sim card thats in the phone is orange not sprint and the reason it works is bec sprint is cdma so basically im roaming on sprint it coosts .2 cents a kb it only adds on 5-10$ a month it not alot at all

Are there any cell phone rental places in the US (travel cell, amigo etc) that will rent me a sim card that I can stick into my sprint bb tour and it will give me calling, texts, data etc? How much does such a thing cost?

I'm heading to Israel on Wednesday and I am hoping that you can help me get a sim card. Where would I get one? Do you know of a website or do I need to go get a sim card
Thanks,
