As was reported earlier:
One side note:  Nowadays Sprint can have it set up to come off on a certain date if you make that request to the international department.  It only happens one out of 4 times though.
It has been a while since I used Sprint to go to Canada.

I go to Canada often, and get the "Reduced Canadian Roaming Plan". Don't Chas V'shalom mmistake me for supporting Sprint, but you can set it up so it should last for a specific number of days. Also, Sprints service has definetly seen a significant improvement.
they allegedly had that set up for me, still continued to Bill me though.
One benefit with Sprint is that you can call up until you bill closes and make retroactive changes to suit your needs

When i was in st thomas and in SJU i used my verizon plan. I didnt see the bill yet but i know that in both places it was free data and texting but calls were 1.99/min in STT and .69/min in SJU!

I used my google voice which is integrated in phone and dialed like a regular call. The only issue with that is that you cant call locally with that.

Can the canada plan also work for those locations?

All numbers pro-rated.
Verizon:
A 4 minute phone call and I was set up with a plan that would automatically revert to my old plan without having to call back in.
They switched my add-a-line plan to it's own Canada plan that included 44 minutes of daytime calling and unlimited nighttime for $1.50 for 3 days.
They changed my texting plan to one that included 129 texts for 97 cents for 3 days.
They changed my data plan to one that included 10MB for $1.89 for 3 days plus $25 for an extra 100MB.
I just called them and they didn't offer me this option. Now that I see the specifics i'll call back and ask for it.

Do they have a plan that includes more than 44 daytime minutes?

Quote
Cost for 25 minutes daytime+25 minutes nighttime+50MB data+50 texts=$29.36
Was it unlimited nights and weekends, or only 25?

Thanx
I always add Canada roaming to my plan, $3 prorated, before i go to Canada. Comes out to 20 cents a minute but the good part is that those minutes aren't counted towards anytime minutes.
Are you sure about that?

44 minutes was pro-rated, 3 days of a 450 minute plan.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=planFirst&action=viewPlanList&catId=930
Thanx for clarifying that, but that didn't answer my question.

You wrote that the canadian plan kept your unlimited nights, but then on the bottom you wrote that you were only allowed 25 night minutes.

ETA: Ah, you were just noting in comparison to sprint. . .

Works for both.
Just PUTPAC, they'll tell you the options, but it's just the various Canada plans, pro-rated for how many days you want it.

Don't know if this is the right place...
Travelling to Canada this week. What are my options for cell/text/data? my ATT service wants to charge exorbitant rates even with a special plan.

Thanks for your help!

I know Sprint and VZW have free texting from Canada.  And they both have very good plan options.
Never had ATT though.

Used to have at&t and it was horrible for Canada, maybe try looking into a pay as you go plan for while you're there

Toronto. I just called Easycell Cell Phone Rentals 416-780-1333
who said he would rent me one for $60 for 1.5 weeks. If I don't find anything cheaper I'll just do that.

I called Bell to explore hooking up a house to internet for $40 a month and they said that you are able to suspend the service for up to six months but you have to pay $10 a month during that time and you must resume service after the 6 month 'vacation. I wonder what would happen if I cancel after a month, then resign up 6 months later for a month etc...
